NHL Playoffs 2022 (1 Viewer)

The first home game for the Blues in series one they had a pre game film that they played on the big screen at the arena, the kind that is suppose to hype you up. It was a full fledged rapper doing what rappers do, although no curse words. I looked at my wife and said "***". The next day the Blues got blasted on face book for doing it. As some one posted "it's like having a country western singer open up an NBA game." I think it was one and done for that fiasco.

I will continue to watch the playoffs since I am a fan of the sport before I am a fan of any team, otherwise why would I watch simply based on the participation of a team from my hometown etc.?

For example San Jose has a soccer team and I could care less because I do not like soccer. I am not going to watch a sport I could care less about because it has a team from San Jose.

First and foremost, I need to like the sport itself.

Thus I watch the NHL no matter who is playing.

I'm a big hockey fan and will watch some of the games but it is just not the same without caring who wins. I don't even dislike any of the teams left in the playoffs. So I can't even pull against anyone. Those bright red Calgary uniforms give me a headache, though, in high def. Like staring at the sun. Maybe I can hope they lose.

Edmonton and Calgary are the last two hopes for Canada; it's actually comical that a Canadian team has not won the Stanley Cup in 28 years as it's their sport afterall, that would be like no US based baseball team winning the WS in 28 years.

Pretty easy to dominate the league back when there were 6 teams, 2 of which were from Canada that had first shot at all the good players.

I would like to see percentage wise the star players in the NHL in regards to nationality. I don't think Canada dominates at all any more.

According to Quant Hockey Statistics.

This is for the league, not necessarily stars.

Percentage of Active NHL Players by Nationality ‑ 2021‑2022 Stats:

1. Canada - 43.1%
2. United States - 28.3%
3. Sweden - 9.4%
4. Finland - 5.6%
5. Russia - 5.1%

Maybe the Blues are an exception but 4 of their top 12 forwards are Russians. Barbashev, Buchnevich, Tarasenko & Toropchenko.

I think in time hockey will become more diverse like the current Blues.

For now, the NHL records are (and have been) dominated by Canadiens:

Of the top 15 all-time goal scorers 11 are Canadien;

Of the top 15 all-time goalie wins leaders 12 are Canadien;

Of the top 15 all-time points leaders 14 are Canadiens.

The Kings only scored 17 goals in a the entire seven-game series with Edmonton (including two shutouts) but Calgary hung 9 goals on them last night. Mike Smith really needs to update that photo that they are using on TV broadcasts. He looks like Nick Nolte's character from "Down and Out in Beverly Hills."

The ghoulie was blinded by those flaming red shirts.......................So Calgary used to be Atlanta, back then they were called the flames.

Atlanta didn't suffer enough in 1864, then they went and named a pro team the "Flames"....................that would be like the Whalers moving to Carolina and the name changed to the "Hurricanes", that would be nuts.

Speaking of nuts, nice nut shot loss by the Rangers last night, some tomato can that couldn't put the puck in the ocean from the shoreline scores the game winner in OT.

Unlike baseball, NHL stats really seem to matter.

Calgary ranked 6th and LA ranked 20th in goals in 2021-2022.

I like the Blues. They are a talented team who mixes skill with a hard nosed, grinding approach which they used to win a Cup in 2019.

However, as a long time fan I recognize the difference between physical play and outright goon style hockey. Last night, St. Louis crossed that line.

That game was difficult to watch as the Blues targeted Nazem Kadri on the ice following deaths threats from fans as a result of an accidental incident that knocked out the Blues starting goalie Jordan Bennington in the previous game.

Death threats from the fans, in reality I don't take that seriously do you? Accident on Kadri running into Binnington, don't quite believe that, he was not pushed, the Blues defenseman was in front of Kadri, let's just call it questionable but one must consider Kadri's past history. If you recall in last years Blues - Aves playoff Kadri knocked Justin Falk out of the playoffs with a cheap shot. Yes Perron gave Kadri a cheap cross check but you can't say Kadri didn't have it coming.
Now after saying all the above. Colorado is a great team and should win the cup. AND Kadri got the last laugh with a hat trick last night.

Gary:

Great balanced post and response.

That was a fantastic Blue’s win last night.

Here is hoping this series goes 7 games.

Best,
Jason

Yes last nights win was one for the history books. But I have learned from watching this sport for over 50 years every game is a different game. My reality view is Colorado is just to good to beat them two more times in a row.

The crowd in Carolina was roaring through that entire game last night like it was game seven of the Stanley Cup. I didn't realize they had such an enthusiastic fan base. I'm picking Tampa to win it all, though. They are playing at a high level.

Buh Bye Whalercanes; they were down to their 9th string ghoulie, so what else do you expect.

Have to give the Rangers a lot of credit. Coming off a couple of tough game seven wins they beat a rested Tampa team in game one of that series. I still think Tampa wins the series but that was a blown opportunity.
