Got the news a short time ago that Nick Versteeg, former owner of Toy Soldiers of San Diego, has passed away.

I'm gutted.

Nick and I started our businesses around the same time in the late 1990's, he was never a competitor but rather a friend, someone I could turn to and talk shop and vice versa, always enjoyed seeing him and Deanna at the Chicago Show, saw him a few years ago and it was a real pleasure, his health has not been the best and it was wonderful to see him.

He and I would spend time at the show catching up and talking about the hobby and the business, we had some great conversations, memories I will always cherish.

We've exchanged many an email as well, he was a true friend, really going to miss him.

RIP Nick, thoughts and prayers to Deanna.

Love you my friend, I'll see you on the other side..............................

Nick got me into the hobby some 20+ years ago. He also started the Texas Toy Soldier Show and encouraged me to move to San Antonio 13 years ago..I've never regretted my move.

He and Deanna are some of the best humans I've ever met...Yeah. it's a very, very sad day indeed!

May God reward you in heaven,Nick! God bless Deanna and their family too!

Carlos...
both him and Deanna were really nice people...
always enjoyed seeing them at the Texas Show...
a sad day indeed...

This is such crushing news. Nick was the very best of us. Always smiling, never complaining and just the best kind of person one could wish to be. I would like to thank him for his service to the United States. He was a brave helicopter pilot in Vietnam. I remember back when they were retiring from the toy soldier business, and a dear friend said Nice and Deanna are irreplaceable. That really said it all to me. I pray Nick is enjoying his rich rewards in heaven as I type this, and prayers of love, strength and peace for Deanna.

Nick was a cool guy, just saw him at the Westcoaster still doing what he loved to do. Sorry to hear this, thoughts are with his family.
