Hi, I noticed that Barzso website really has nothing for sale anymore. I was wondering if anybody has any news about Barzso, have they stopped producing products?

Ron Barzso went on a hiatus in January of this year, for a few months. He released a small medieval stone cottage last spring, and introduced a very limited Pirate Schooner at the Chicago Toy Soldier Show in October. He also has a small medieval tower that's just been posted for sale on his website. The tower was designed for the Nottingham Castle keep, but he's now offering it for sale as a stand alone piece.

Ron will be going on hiatus again, probably starting in January 2016.. not sure how long this time or what his long range plans. When I get more information I'll pass it on. I know he's kicking around a couple of ideas.. but that's about all I know at the moment.

I am glad I have my Civil War Fort and Fort William Henry. They are fantastic sets. I hope Ron returns in 2016.

Couldn't agree more with your "fantastic" as a description of Ron's sets...I have all (I believe) of his Medieval stuff, I almost missed the castle, but got one on the second run.

I have missed buying a few sets that I wanted over the years...you would think I would learn.

"Fantastic" is also the way I would describe Ron, and his wife...they are some of the most cordial people in the hobby.

Jim Clouse should also be mentioned as one of the good guys.

Barzo playsets are iconic and will be sorely missed if discontinued. Real quality at reasonable prices, filling the gap for those of us who still enjoy a fort, castle or scenics that can be "played" with.
I have the Nottingham Castle and Fortified Abbey which work so well with Conte's Vikings and Normans. WB Medievals, First Legion Agincourt series and JJD Wars of the Roses will also go well with
these structures.
Their value will only go up if you are lucky enough to find them at shows on on Ebay.
Hopefully there will be a few additions in the near future.

First, thanks for all the kind words.. Ron and his wife, Mary Anne are two of my favorite people..

I spoke to Ron last night and this is the latest from him:

He'll be on hiatus starting Dec. 14 and possibly open on May 1, 2016. He hopes to have more foam parts in stock at that time. Figures are doubtful.

Thx again,

Jim

So, if I am to get a Medieval cottage I need to act fast. That is sad to hear, but I know he has been having some health issues; better to have him even part time for a bit longer than full time for a short time.

Jim, please give him my best - he and his wife, as have been said, are class acts.

Will do, Wayne... but it's not so much his health issues as it is other variables (like getting product on a consistent basis, at reasonable prices, etc.). And I think there are other factors not related to the business at all... But, I know he would like to do more.. just not sure what or when, or even if....

I'm glad it's not his health; the one good piece of news here. As for the rest, I guess many of the producers are beginning to feel the bite of the times and our shrinking market. Well, it's not like I don't have enough unpainted figures to last me more than my natural lifetime to finish already; and I definitely have enough figures and stuff to play with; but geez, looking forward to what Ron was going to come up with this year was as close to getting the SEARS "Big Toy Box" and JC Penny's Christmas catalogs as I've had since I was a kid.

A good item could be a regular WW2 building.
Nothing gigantic like Ticonderoga or the castle.

My favorite Barzso items are the ambush rocks from Braddock.
The way they fit together for different configurations is excellent.

Thanks for the update, I have a bunch of his stuff from over the years. His French and Indian War products are my favorite. What I like most about his products are his personal touch his gives. I had been waiting to order the Fort William Henry, hope he releases that again.

Thanks again, Mike

I talked with Ron this morning, and one thing I can say is that his enthusiasm for the hobby is still very strong.

As said earlier...he is a great guy.

Yeah he is a Great guy, hope all is well. I wish he had made a Viking playset, we will have to wait to see what happens.

Ron hasn't retired quite yet... No new figures right now, but I'm working on a new medieval tower that will be ready by the Chicago Show. It will be in two major sections, with the height around 21" or so in total. It will also have a "rocky" base on which to set it, making the entire height close to 30".

When I get near completion (probably in a week), I'll post a photo.

Thx,

Jim
