Guys,
Lately, TGM produced some wonderful WW II tanks, vehicles, AFVs, Guns, Flaks and now the Nebelwerfers are coming ! BUT ...... I think we desperately need some troops in non-combat positions to join these marvellous items and to complete the picture . Don't you think the same ??????
Who would buy such new figurines ??? Let TG know through this thread or directly through email;
guy:)

Guy,
Completely agree with you, the list is endless of different poses other than combat ones, the every day things that soldiers do eg; shaving, eating, cleaning weapons, playing cards, digging foxholes and trenches, tending horses, mechanics and ect. I for one would rather buy such figures but alas I don't see any maker doing them any time soon as they would see them as non sellers which I believe is not true.

Yes, I agree.......

All makers produce fighting soldiers, but TGM has been making things the big boys don't, so lets hope that Tom steers away from those poses and concentrates on the non combat roles, which take up most of a soldier's time.

I'm really looking for more NAPOLEONIC figures in that theme.

I recently spoke to Tom about a project that would pretty much fall into this category. Alex

Great idea!!.....I know that i would be definately interested, especially subjects covering all aspects of the Combat Engineers..{Vehicles and Figures}.

I also like the idea of non combat poses for Napoleonic's. For example we have the TG Rocket troops in action mode. Why not some support staff. I suggested to Tom that he could possibly add the basic transport cart the Rocket troops used. These guys were horse artillery so we need horses and horses need feeding and tending to. How about a couple of troops in shirtsleeves feeding the horses and carrying buckets of water, adjusting or removing the horses harness etc. ^&cool

I like lots of marching troops so more of those would be great. I have been asking for greatcoated French marching troops on nearly every manufacturer's forum but to no avail. K&C and First Legion do some marching troops but they are too expensive for me. W. Britains did some which I have multiples of but I wanted more so I am currently trying to sculpt my own. Nearly at the mold making stage{sm3}.
I would love to see TG make some marching troops suitable for Peninsula and Waterloo scenarios both French and British.

How about soldiers on picket duty in greatcoats, some alert, some asleep, eating and drinking maybe.

How about a field hospital. Britains did a great job with the Hougoumont surgeons set. So much so I made my own wounded soldiers and barn to house them all in.
TG would make a great job of a cart load of wounded being transported to a field hospital at the rear of the battlefield.
There were tens of thousands killed and wounded at Waterloo so, although it is not nice to say, we need more dead and wounded. More dead and wounded horses.
How about prisoners being marched off, soldiers running for their lives from a cavalry charge..camp followers and wives... the list is endless.
You've got me started now....^&grin

Napoleon troops like these are on their way. Don't know exactly when they will reach us but Tom made a promise !!!!!

I think its hard for new manufacturers like TG to suddenly make lots of these poses asked for on these wish lists. While its important for the dio builders and some collectors the vast majority of collectors want marhing and action figures.

I would be surprised if we are inundated with non action posed at rest etc Naps there has to be a mix which, I think will always be slanted to the most popular posed figures I mentioned above.

In terms of WWII I think TG has already done some good ones like stukas above and some of the FJ's radio teams etc.

More than likely expect some in the coming years but, they have to cater for the majority not just the dio makers among us which, as one myself always find room for extra poses like those asked for

You are very knowledgable in matters concerning this hobby, but you give up too easily on some issues. We agree on many aspects of this hobby, but sometimes you have a defeated attitude stating things that cant be done or are unpopular. Be positive and rally the troops to provoke the manufacturers to do these very necessary figures. I hear many on this forum and elseware calling for these types of figures.

How much action can there be, one guy shooting is just like another, but the casual poses bring character to a diorama and to a a collectors collection. Alex

Alex...

I am a realist thats all. Thats not negative defeatist etc its seeing things the way they are not, the way we fancy seeing them be it a hobby or otherwise. I think sometimes we see this forum as the only important tool and forget we are a small, very small number, especially, the amount that regularly post and, ask for things. We don't run the hobby and many or, the majority of things asked for are unrealistic in a financial sense.

I can see the benefits of these figures but, I don't see a manufacturer seeing them as enthusiastically as the few who have posted do. You say many ask you about them but, again, the difference between interest and hand in pocket is massive. If ten people say on here I will buy then accordingly, its seen as a success and would ''fly'' out the window. Thats why I don't really suggest things to manufacturers that they should make. There are three things I want for my collection above all else and two have been made one is outstanding and will eventually be made

Dio makers wish lists may be low down in manufacturers minds when doing a run of figures. Thats not a knock on dio makers its just the fact that when we make a scene we want specific things when a collector makes a shelf display these items may not fit in so well.

Even what you and guy are asking for in terms of non action poses seems completely different to what K&C (in the response) meant.

Hell, with the talent on here how hard would it be to use some of the sitting pre released figures and scratch build them some cards in hands?? Not hard at all. I could even think of some that arms could be changed and made into washing or shaving scenes.

Just say it how I see it thats all any of us have to offer here

Mitch .....Remember it was said the East wouldnt sell........Now we are in an East frenzy. A lot of collectors are not creative, they just collect, they rely on the more creative types to set trends and they will follow.

Almost all of the manufacturers are caught up in the bottom line and sometimes they lack vision also. Creative types like yourself can help get something started if you stick to your guns. I am sticking to mine. Alex

Alex...

Going to have to say that firstly, I don't think we are in a eastern front frenzy. Two manufacturers have brought out some sets of russian troops and AFV's. a third one has already been doing stalingrad for ages and, two of the other big manufactures have not touched the subject. For me, personally its not really a frenzy maybe a little storm in a tea cup. We have not really been flooded with them nor, do I think we will or, will it continue. K&C has always been in the east with its german releases so, this sudden focus is only on the appearance of russian troops and a T-34. same applies to figarti.

I also, as a painter and dio maker, don't think what I do is important enough to make people follow that are less creative. I think the majority of people in the hobby are creative maybe, mentally not physically (in the fact that they have ideas but, can't do the work themselves) as they have to get people like us to make them bespoke items that have not been released.

I would think half the ideas (maybe more) manufacturers get from collectors and other people are half baked and/or rather selfish want lists the rest, are probably decent ideas but, not practical and a few may spark an interest even turn into a product. Not sure what the original point was now!!! but, I admire and applaud your resolve in these matters but, for me, I like to do what I do and go my own way. if what I do interests a few then fine, if it annoys a few, also fine.

Same here, and I am continuing to lobby for casual poses.

I prefer non combat positions and based on what I have seen on this forum including some polls I would venture about 50% of collectors prefer non combat poses, at least as far as WWII is concerned.

"...use some of the sitting pre released figures and scratch build them some cards in hands?? Not hard at all. I could even think of some that arms could be changed and made into washing or shaving scenes."

Scroll to the bottom of the page for a useful selection of more-or-less generic arms for "leisure activities" (like digging ditches and peeling spuds{eek3}). They are sculpted by Roger Saunders, and though 1/32 scale, can be built up to 1/30 with a bit of putty.

I used to sell the figures made by Roger Saunders a well known UK sculptor whose brands are Hornet
and Wolf. Amongst 1/35 armour guys they were very highly regarded. He was particularly noted for his
many various packs of assorted heads. He did an "accurate" weeing soldier several years ago which attracted a lot of comment then.

I have said it before and i will say it again.....How many combat posed figures can the market sustain?????. I love all toy soldiers, and have collected KC from day 1. WB for the last 4years, JJ,
Figarti, for the last year, and have now become an ardent fan of TG .I also really enjoy dreaming up and building dioramas to put my collection in. BUT!!!!...every once in a while as i view my
display cases i get the feeling that there is something missing....NON COMBAT POSES!!!!. After all how many standing/kneeling/prone/looking through binoculars/holding a map/pointing/marching..figures do we need??. I was until a year ago involved in Living history..WWII US Army 90th Inf Div.I was a Combat Medic, and displayed and gave demonstrations of my Aid Station...I never took part in the mock battles, always found them to be a sad shambles..But what i am trying to say is the public that came to these shows were just as eager {some even more so} to see the camp life and static displays that were offered than all the flash-bang-boom re-enactment boys could offer. I have seen some wonderfull re-enactment shows of the ACW.
ECW. Waterloo. Large groups of men/cavalry charging each other in a field is always impressive, but these guys also had large impressive camps with every aspect of camp life portrayed.
I will never say that this is an unexplored area, there have been some wonderfull releases from many toy soldier companys.....but for me anyhow not nearly enough, the surface has only been merely scratched of a subject that could deliver endless possibilities.....There have been many great ideas mentioned recently on this subject...Lets just hope that the toy soldier makers listen these ideas!!!!!!!!.

Remember men I said I would see this through, I am using whatever clout BSP has established to further this concept and I am making progress. I will not say any more, because we have found that keeping a low profile is a better way to carry on in this volatile hobby and on this Forum.

PLEASE continue with your positive comments on this subject, it will be a great help in this mission.

Then we have to put our money where our mouth is and support these products by whom ever manufacturers them should our mission be successful.

Regards
Alex
