NOR013-NOR025 Waffen-SS for the Battle of Normandy!! (3 Viewers)

Missed the SS guys in London but from pics they look very good:salute::

Sammy,

If I wasn't happy with what First Legion had done with the Civil War, I don't think I would have purchased all that I have :wink2: I have posted several photos, although not recently, of FL figures I have purchased.

Agreed. And, and these ss guys do look outstanding. I have no doubt when my dealer gets them. I will pick them up. Although I will be spread thin! SL, CW and now SS! When will this madness stop! :)

Hang in there Brad, one good thing with the Frist Legion is that most all ranges haven't been retired...Sammy

Hi Rob, I don't think they made the trip to London, but I'm sure they will plenty there to view in December...Sammy

That is one of the things I really like about FL. I know I can still pick up the SL line (which I really like), and CW and now SS. But not feel too pressured about monthly retirements. Although Brad said the original Rebs were done.

I was just looking at my missing list of 55th NC and I better get an order into George very soon.

Sammy I look forward to seeing them in action in that superb dio of your's mate, they say David Copperfieid is a magician...they haven't met David from TM Terrain!

Was interesting reading what Mitch said about his reasons for not collecting some of FL ranges (and I'm not being flippant there, it is always interesting to hear why some collectors collect some things and not others). When FL first arrived I was disappointed, not because of any lack of quality, painting or poses but because they simply didn't match size with all my other items and I simply could not afford to start another collection of another size. Now before someone runs off to another forum saying ' Ooooh look what Rob said about FL, oooh look what he said'!! (give me strength:rolleyes2:) This is not a ' Slag' as some perceived before:rolleyes2: I think they have made some stunning figures and I really mean that. For YEARS I've wanted their Rebs but never seem to have enough money to get them as well as everything else I collect:( but have not given up hope of affording some at some point. If I was into Crusaders I would have got some of FL's because me PERSONALLY I think its another of their flagship ranges.

As for faces I think FL are like all other companies , sometimes they are spot on and other times not. As for the Helmet issue Mitch raised to be fair he is not the only person to mention this to me over the years, they do look a tad small maybe but would this stop me buying them, I don't know is the honest answer. But I know one thing, the Stalingrad figures in Sammy's dio looked terrific in there as they fought for the lives against the much braver Brits and Americans (Joke!{sm4}) who were not yet in view!.

I hope as adults and free speakers we can be honest about our opinions and speak openly. Mitch has often said we should all be free to say what we please without anyone getting upset, Sammy has sometimes said which figures of other companies he likes and which he doesn't , hell even Frank has said positive things about other companies in the past!

So my suggestion to all of you is this, that as adult collectors we CAN like some things one producer creates but not others WITHOUT starting another War!

Just my view

Rob....

its not a toy soldier forum if you can only say you like things. In real world it just does not happen that everything released or available we like. I say what I think about what I see in front of me or what is on offer.

If you don't like something you say it and explain why. Not once on this forum have I just thought lets wind someone up and have a pop at what they collect. I leave that to others.

I say what I think and feel its as simple as that. Your post and comments which I agree with won't even reach that far North as nobody cares about ''mine is better than yours'' anymore the boat has, for the most part has and gladly sailed.

Now, it would be nice to discuss the SS troops as they are as I said really good

Thanks for the nice words Rob, and I really look forward to seeing how the SS and the Paras will fit in the new dio, and who knows maybe some Brits will join in the ranks at some point:)...Sammy

I agree 100%, but it's also the case that sometimes the better part of valor is to allow others to simply enjoy what they enjoy without having to always counter negative descriptions. If I have no interest in a line there isn't a lot of reason to take a lot of time downplaying it. People come to the forum to enjoy what they collect, not to have to constantly defend their buying choices.

If there is a mistake on a figure, by all means point it out (once, not a million times). Manufacturers have corrected things because of what has been posted here. If you don't like a manufacturers style, move on! Constant negativity only leads people to feel the need to defend their choice to buy them. People have eyes and can tell for themselves whether they like a style or not.

While I am replying to Mitch's post, this applies to everyone involved.

To get back to the positive, I'll be picking up a number of this first release, most likely starting with the MG42 team. Have wanted that set since seeing it in the Workbench area months ago. Hopefully they produce some early war SS troops over time. The variety of camouflage always piqued my interest, and they've rendered it exquisitely.

Great choice on your first pic Rich, as I have read a few fellows are grabbing that one first, I have 017, 022 on the pre-order but I really like the looks of the camo on 021 runner/rifle, just like the look it for some reason, I think the camo seems to pop out to me more...Sammy

I sure didn't think the announcement of a much awaited range was going to turn into a "my First Legion guys look better then your First Legion guys"^&confuse..well, I guess we have evolved somewhat as it use to be "my First Legion guys are better then yada, yada" company etc...now we are just disagreeing with ranges of the same company, I can't figure is that a step forward or backward??

I can't figure that one out either Sammy:wink2:....All I know is that First Legion Stalingrad is Superb:salute::I'm sure I will buy some Waffen SS......but....Only the ones with pretty faces.^&grin^&grin^&grin

My US Paras are waiting to face them in battle ......... the Waffen SS boys are coming in force to my diorama table soon :wink2:

Looking forward to it {bravo}} The quality of your work cries out for figures worthy of the time you put into to creating them and these Fine figures will answer big time. Regards Gebhard

As a collector and I speak for those collectors that are not part of this forum or any other community. These are the best 54mm German waffenSS
Figs out there to date any negative remarks is just plan jealousy quotes !!!!!

I've never really understood the comments regarding faces in the Stalingrad range. For the most part I think they are really well done with many unique looking individuals. As for the helmets being too small, I don't see that either. German helmets were produced in 7 different standard sizes as well as special order larger sizes. The liner circumference was not adjustable meaning an appropriate close fitting liner and associated shell were required for a proper fit.

As for the Normandy range, I personally didn't like the facial painting on the 101st Airborne figures as much as the Stalingrad range. I thought the highlighting and shading was excessive and the transitions between light and dark weren't blended sufficiently. I also had a few samples where I suspect the highlights and shading didn't end up in the same spot as the master. That said, overall the figures are still very well done, just not quite as nice as Stalingrad IMO.

I have ordered 9 of the SS figures to start and you will be sure to see them in my Normandy thread. I have skipped the soldiers armed with MP44/StG44s for the time being as this wasn't really prevalent in Normandy (yes there are a few pictures but very rare). I will likely get them later for use on the East Front or later war scenes. As already noted the camo looks amazing in this scale and at this price point so I am eagerly awaiting the shipment.

The camo on these new sets is very well done, just looking at the MG team (my personal fave of these releases) and the pea pattern is very good indeed. Excellent looking set that one.

Excellent Assessment....looking forward to your next dio with these fine figures:salute::

Nice picture Frank.. I can see also that within the Stalingrad change there are some variations in the shading & highlighting department with the top left face being too crude for my own taste...
I must admit that this is one aspect which I don't like with current figures produced in China : the variation in the quality of the painting between and within ranges of the different manufacturers.
I can't wait to see the FL *P* range figures which will directly compete with other russian producers... Bring them on MAtt !
