imho, it would be a benefit to post all pics of German tanks from Munster
 
I have several photos frrom Munster, but half of them are post WWII modern German stuff. There are only 6 or 7 photos of WWII AFVs and I don't know how many WWII AFVs are at the museum. Many of the WWII AFVs are late war 3 colour camo and I do use them for reference, but there isn't a wide variety. What I'm saying is there isn't a treasure trove of AFVs and photos of them.

Hi Guys,
I've picked out about 50 photo's from my most recent visit to Deutsches Panzermuseum Munster three years ago. They have a Great collection and some Great ATV's as well unfortunately some have been repainted but none nearly as bad as the PINK PANTHER they had at Aberdeen Proving Ground years back. There are several untouched examples and as soon as I can I will post them all, I have to load them up to photobucket first. Sorry for the delay regards Gebhard

Hi Terry,
No disrespect but there are plenty of GREAT Museums in the world, and setting at a computer looking for images on google won't cut it:wink2:. You gotta do your research grab the wife and kids, your Camera and jump on a plane. Yea books are great but in my opinion you really never get a true feel for it until your standing next to a King Tiger, Panther, T34 ect ect . :wink2::salute:::salute:: There is just no substitute for seeing and touching the real thing and having 1000's and 1000's of your own personal photo's to aid in your research.. Not sure that the helmet colour which, along with the ammo boxes is plainly incorrect if it actually is portraying Dunkelgelb, would be the same colour that FL would/will use on any forthcoming AFV's for the European campaigns. From the start when the pics came out my impression was that they had either attempted to mix and match troops from Italy and those Med theatres of war in terms of equipment well, helmets anyway.

I have in painting terms not come across any paint that exactly fits what I see as Dunkelgelb and always have to mix it until I am satisfied with the result so, as manufacturers don't use their own mixed paint or anything different to the many modellers and painters out there (Vallejo, Tamiya, life color etc) they will have to opt for what they think is best for their figures and AFV's.

I would not think any manufacturer would use this helmet colour for a AFV

I was lucky the day I was there they had a private tour with a handful of Veterans and their families. I just slid in with them and it was Great, The staff was very open to anything and didn't say a thing about touching, one vocal older gentleman had been a crew member and even slapped the hull with his hand while telling a joke. I spent my younger days not far from the Museum in Aberdeen MD and we played on them like jungle jims. It wasn't till someone fell and sued that they got more stringent. I also guess they also now want to preserve them a bit but at Aberdeen they were uncovered and left to rot for decades. regards Gebhard

I do appreciate the photos so much that I decided to return to Munster in March. Having said that, I think it would be great if these photos could be honored with their own thread.

Hi Andreas,
The color of the helmet in these photo's looks IMO Perfect, also the items on display in and on the cabinet look very nice as well :salute::. The single image of the camo Para helmet is a repop just for the record. I'm glad I've inspired you to return to Munster, my intent was to motivate guys to put the books down and go traveling :wink2:. I'm sorry if I've derailed the thread, I was trying to help with the color discussion . Regards Gebhard

Hi Andreas,
I agree with the waiting to make " FINAL " judgment until I have the final figure in hand as like we have said several times First Legions figures always look 100 times better in the flesh then in their advertisements. Having said that I also think its important to have discussion about UPCOMING figures in relation to quality of the sculpt, the amount of historical research that's been done or not done by the manufacture, and finally the painting and choice of colors they have made.
As you know I'm a big supporter of what First Legion are doing and have done:wink2:, I really feel they do their Homework and are open to making changes in an effort to GET IT RIGHT. They don' t like mistakes and Matt really gives his all by living not far from the factory and making frequent visits to insure quality is maintained. There are a lot of well read guys on this forum and I feel many have knowledge to share, and that can be a Great thing for everyone here as well as for First Legion. They really are for my taste the best at bringing History to life. regards Gebhard
