Normandy ’44 LCVP Landing Craft (1 Viewer)

No Chris, there is a APA-06.
It is the USS Heywood. She was a troop transport … BUT … only used in the Pacific.
See the following link to read a bit about the ship!

USS Heywood (APA-6) was a Heywood-class attack transport acquired by the U.S. Navy for service as a troop carrier just prior to World War II. She served in the Pacific War, a very dangerous area in the early years of the war, and safely returned home post-war with seven battle stars to her credit.

Thanks LaRRy (it's a contrivance to type that every time. :smile2:), good to know. I missed that. As far as I can tell, the 2nd and 5th Rangers were all landed on D-Day by LCAs from RCN and RN vessels. My planned dios will feature LCVPs from APA30, Thos Jefferson. She landed 29th Division. Will change 1st Div K&C figs to 29th. 29th comes from my home state Maryland. :salute:: Chris

Hi Fellas,

I always enjoy the discussions generated by these topics.

Here's a Sunday morning shot as some stealthy British Commandos infiltrate the Atlantic Wall defenses:

More than welcome, Chris.

I am planning to get a "SECOND" LCVP .. if $$$$$ possible.

Changing the craft designation from the PA06-44 to something else will be a task that I will (probably) seek someone to do a "professional" job of alternation for me. Even if I keep the USS Heywood as the mother ship and use the PA06 on the LCVP, I would still like to have the "44" changed to "??".
I am not a rivet counter but it will look a bit better … IMO only, of course.

Looking forward to seeing your results!!!

Hi LaRRy
I think the last two digits refer to the boat number, ie the AP and APA would carry 26 to 33 LCVPs. So you can nmber 01 thru 33 or whatever. I plan to use press letters/numbers or maybe stencil the APA number. I noticed the K&C designation are block letters, not the stencil painted version used used historically.
Using 2 K&C LCVPs? :salute:::salute:::salute::

Looking at September for the release of my dio. Allowing for the monthly collection budget. Which I've already busted again. :redface2:

Mine just arrived today … can't wait to get it out of the box and admire KC newest and greatest addition.

Yup, the highest number of LCVP (I think) was like 33, good find!

Super idea on the press on letters; so I will examine my new toy and head to Staples to find some to match the style.
I would like to find the first LCVP that K&C released but as the expression goes … rare like hen's teeth.

I'll see if I can get one out by the end of this month. September is busy for me as I am off to CHICAGO with George!!!

Good collecting.

Just got my LVCP today and I’m very impressed! Great details and I’m really glad it came with the full crew compliment. Loaded with troops, this model is extremely heavy, but definitely looks the part, even if the ID numbers are fictional... I’m trying to think of the best way to display this now.

I am impressed that there was even one on eBay, regardless of the price.
I faithfully look on eBay, Treefrog, and other locations but never see one to even bid on it.
So just to see one is a treat.

I do not follow the issues of "SHIPPING" to closely but I suspect even if one came up for sale and I won the shipping would be a killer.

But to get one, I might even bite the lip and go for it.

Thank, Steve,

If and when I see one again. I'll give you the heads up Larry.

Steve
