Novembers figure releases are here! (1 Viewer)

Just a clarification; Demophillus was the leader of the 700 Thespians, who volunteered to stay and fight with the Spartans. I believe that the new figures are Thespians and not Thebans. By the way I received some new T. Gunn today. I really love the smoothness of the paint finish.

I forgot it: the Byzantine guard with the Chi-Ro is SUPERB!!

Thanks you I am glad you liked them, we are nearly out of the first batch of guards and I have pleasure in attaching a preview of the second guardsman.

I hope you enjoy and thank you for your support.

The new figures are excellent, as always. However, I wish to express my disappointment with Xerxes. As presented, he is a diminished King of Kings. He would never hold a severed head, as this both reduces his majesty and makes him (however ironically) more human. He would have been presented with the head by a general holding it. I had hoped for a visually "large" figure while this one seems smallish (that may just be the photography), standing on a stone base, or perhaps seated upon a transportable throne. At any rate, I do think that TG has failed this subject in a fairly significant way. (Please note that I collect TG Romans, Greeks/Ancients, and Foreign Legion, the vast majority of which I think are superb). Just my .02.

I agree......and in addition I just won't collect any figures showing decapitation. Hard enough explaining violent history to children without totally scaring them.

Yep I like the throne scenario also, So hopefully TG will issue more than this one Xerxes. Though I will still get this incarnation if I am able to.

Mmmm the stain on the Thebans echo's down through the centuries !

yes Xerxes on some kind of platform/throne reviewing his army or passing judgment on his enemies would be more appropriate.

I've posted a thread in the diorama section how I thought a Persian king would be portrayed. Regards Greg.

For myself TG couldn't do better than to model their Xerxes on David Farrar's Xerxes on his throne from the 1962 film 300 Spartans !

Are the medieval figures all going to be stand alone, personality pieces like the first three (I like them a lot), or are they going to be diorama worthy action poses too?
I would love to see personality figures from the third crusade, but understand that people like dioramas so will also want "nameless" cavalry and soldiers.

Yes indeed, anything better then the pose that they have produced. I quite like the figure but not with the severed head. I feel it detracts from it. In saying that Iam happy with the Roman, the Spartan and Greeks and Australian and Japanese figures in my collection All excellent offerings from TG. I think you will like my WW2 Pacific diorama that will be posted before Christmas. Just got to collect a couple more figures. Regards Greg.

On the 2nd day of the Battle of Thermopylae Xerxes ask to appear in front of him the best troops of all the contingents that formed his army. He addressed personally the troops promising gifts if they won and severe punishment if they hesitate in front of the Greeks. T. Gunn's figure fits perfectly to the above incident. After the battle Xerxes asked for the head of Leonidas to be placed on a pole for everyone to see it.

Didn’t the Thebans stay neutral and then join the Persians?

The web site titled '' The 400 Thebans " might paint a clearer picture. Regards Greg.

I would love Third Crusade. My only request is not to make Balian d’Ibelin look like Orlando Bloom. His character had almost nothing to do with reality. Using the Red Cross pattee on marigold is OK since we do not know his actual heraldry.

Also, isn’t Richard a little old for 3rd Crusade? He was still pretty young, right?

Yup. Richard I believe was in his twenties. I think he went east a few months post coronation. I’m no expert though, just going by memory. Balian would be a good figure but yes, that movie is definitely Hollywood. Enjoyable, but Hollywood 😀

I’ll let you know soon. Currently reading the new Templar book by Dan jones
