Dear Gunn Aviation Club Members
Welcome to our October Fast Jets preview Aircraft newsletter, featuring some exciting new models.

All our hand carved Mahogany aircraft take in the region of 60 hours to manufacture plus many hours of drying time which usually equates build time frame of around 9 months. making every aircraft a unique piece.
For those of you who wish to spread your budget, please note we do accept stage payments where you can spread the cost over several months. If you require further details of any of the aircraft in our July 2024 newsletter please email us on welcome@gunnclub.co.uk

As always, a big thank you to Mark Dyer for his continued support, who assisted us as with the finer details in this newsletter.

WOW551 Mig 15 (Silver) Korea 1951

Designed to meet a Soviet Air Force requirement for a high-performance jet fighter, the MiG-15 was first flown on December 30, 1947 and was one of the first truly successful swept-wing fighters. The MiG-15 was used by several communist nations-including the USSR and North Korea. It could shoot down heavy bombers and could climb faster and higher than its American rival, the F-86. Fortunately for the F-86, it also turned poorly and had high-mach instability, which limited it as a dogfighter. It was poorly matched with the F-86 but excelled in its role as a bomber interceptor, frequently preventing B-29s from operating during the day.

Though externally very similar to the MiG-15, the MiG-15bis was a vastly improved variant. Some Soviet units began using the MiG-15bis early in 1951, and by the middle of 1951 the Soviets began replacing all their MiG-15s flying over Korea with the MiG-15bis. It is believed that MiG-15bis "White 384" was flown by Colonel Yevgeni Pepelyayev from an airbase in China. It is said he scored 19 kills with 14 of them being F-86 Sabres. This 1/30 scale Mig 15 is limited to 3 in number worldwide and is priced at?.

WOW552. Mig 15 BIS (Camo) Korea 1953

In November 1950, the Russian built MiG-15 went into battle. Its advanced design and exceptional performance startled United Nations forces. The U.S. hoped one of the planes could be acquired for technical analysis and flight evaluation. However, MiG-15 pilots were very careful not to fly over UN territory where they might be forced down. In April 1953 the U.S. Far East Command made an offer of $100,000 for the first MiG-15 delivered intact. No enemy pilot took advantage of this offer, and when the Korean truce went into effect on July 27, 1953, the U.S. still had not acquired a MiG-15 for flight-testing.

The Russian’s sent MIG 15s to the Chinese and the North Koreans in 1950. The first-ever jet-versus-jet combat happened on 15th November 1950, when three MiG-15s from the 50th IAD intercepted ten F-80 Shooting Stars. One of the F-80C's piloted by 1st Lt Frank Van Sickle USAF was shot down by 1st Lt Semyon Fyodorovich Khominich, Van Sickle was killed.

The Soviet Union actively denied that its pilots flew in combat during the Korean War; only China and North Korea took responsibility for Korean War operations. After the end of the Cold War, Soviet pilots who participated in the conflict began to reveal their roles.

Our 1/30 scale MIG 15 release served with the People's Liberation Army, China Air Force, Unit: 726th IAP, Serial: 502. The Russian pilot who flew this machine was Capt. Nikolai Ivanovich Ivanov, an Ace with 6 victories.

WOW619 Panther - Neil Armstrong

The Grumman F9F-2 Panther was the primary US Navy and USMC jet fighter and ground-attack aircraft in the Korean War. The Panther was the most widely used U.S. Navy jet fighter of the Korean War, flying 78,000 sorties and scoring the first air-to-air kill by the U.S. Navy in the war, a North Korean Yakovlev Yak-9 fighter.

Navy F9F-2 Panther jet S-116 was flown by Navy Ensign Neil Armstrong.
Assigned to Fighter Squadron 51, the squadron was assigned to Carrier Air Group 5 aboard the USS Essex for a deployment to Korea from June 26, 1951, to March 25, 1952. Armstrong flew many sorties over Korea in the early 1950s, even ejecting from one of the aircraft when it was brought down by a wire strung across a valley in 1951.

This 1/30 scale hand carved Mahogany jet is limited to 1 in number worldwide. Priced at $799 plus postage.
The TG accessories and K&C figures are shown for scale comparison purposes only and are not included.

WOW590. F16 – Israeli

The Israel Defence Force/Air Force ordered a total of 362 F-16s, from early F-16A/Bs to the latest F-16I.
Fifty of these aircraft were surplus USAF aircraft, given to Israel by the US as payment for restraint during the 1991 Gulf War despite Scud attacks. All Israeli F-16s are fitted with custom Israeli electronics.

Israeli F-16s have been used extensively in combat, and Of 67 kills achieved by the F-16 world-wide, 47 are accredited to the IDFAF's F-16s. They were also used in the bombing of the Iraq's nuclear reactor in Osirak.

IDF/AF F-16D block 40 612 has an enlarged spine and enlarged navlight mounts on the intake. These aircraft were the first production aircraft with the dorsal spine and are supposedly used in a Wild Weasel role. This 1/30 scale F16 is limited to 2 in number worldwide and is priced at $899 plus postage.

WOW591 Eurofighter - Tiger Meet - Luftwaffe.

The Eurofighter Typhoon is a twin-engine multi-role fighter built by a European consortium made up of the UK, Germany, Spain and Italy. With 4 countries involved it is necessary to have what they call Tranches (similar to contracts) that are broken down into batches and blocks. The development of the Eurofighter began in 1983 with the prototype maiden flight of the Eurofighter taking place on March 27, 1994. The first fully equipped Tranche 2 Instrumented Production Aircraft (IPA7) took to the skies on January 16, 2008.

Jagdgeschwader 74 (Fighter Wing 74) was activated on May 5th, 1961 equipped with the F-86K. In 2006 Jagdgeschwader 74 received the Eurofighter Typhoon making them the first German operational squadron. In March 2013 Jagdgeschwader 74 squadrons 741 and 742 took over the Tiger spirit from the disbanded 321 Squadron. In October 2013 JG 74 was renamed Taktisches Luftwaffengeschwader 74 (TktLwG74). During “Tiger Meet 2014” (June 16th – 27th) EF2000 Eurofighter (30+09; C/N GS004/048) from TLG74 at Neuburg won Best Tiger Paint Scheme.

The recommended retail price for this model is $899 plus $100 postage for USA/Australia/Canada etc, the postage is reflected in the banner price and you will not be charged additional at checkout.

The K&C figures and TG accessory mats are shown for scale comparison purposes only and are not included.

Some fantastic jet aircraft releases this month! I didn’t get this newsletter for some reason, but was aware of the incoming jets… I’ve got one of the F9F Panthers on the way and I already got one of their MiG-15s a few weeks ago 😎
