Guys...

I am in the process of repainting an old CS tiger 1 and, thought I would post the initial undercoat pictures and post as it develops. I quite like it just undercoated like this and, if it were mine I would now just weather it up and have it as one of the Tigers in normandy where the crew have had no time to get the field paint job done.

Will post some more when the next stage is done

It will have colour camo added next brown and green stripes for the european theatre not for the desert. but, I quite like the colour for the dunkelgelb or german yellow it will get a few washes with some of the filters available and will be toned down. The colours always look brighter than they end up. I have a few pictures of Tigers in the west where they did not have time to apply the field camo and would, if it were mine, go down that road but, as I am doing this as a commision I follow whats wanted.

Are you doing an AK theme with that one? if you dont mind me asking .

I cant wait too see. The only reason I was asking about the AK theme is that the tiger had Zimmeret.
and was Zimmeret used later in the war?( not an expert )just asking.

You are right The early tigers in the DAK had no zimm.

I think the base color is a winner. Look forward to the finished product. -- Al

I like the color you have used and suspect once it's toned down with washes etc. will look really good. I agree that it would look sharp without the field applied brown and green. I've seen numerous pictures of all manner of vehicle in base Dunkelgelb. I'm sure there were all sorts of reasons, lack of time, lack of paint, terrain conditions. The intent of field applied camo was flexibility.

Mitch, Brilliant work (as usual). I agree, dunkelgelb, coupled with some weathering and new unit markings would make a fine looking vehicle. It also seems to highlight the fine details of the CS Tiger (at least in my opinion).

Guys...

Thanks for all the kind comments. The dunkelgelb I use used to be mixed to get what I thought was the right colour as I did not like what was on the market it just never seemed right. Now I use model air german yellow which, is a superb base colour before modulation.

I must say after an e-mail tonight things have taken a turn and now, the camo colour idea has been scrapped and the wheel has literally fallen off!!!! Will post the pics of the new idea this guy has had and, what he has had me doing tommorow. Not for the faint hearted!!!! but, great fun.

Guys...

Thought a simple job doing a camo repaint for normandy!!! However, a picture from the totenkopf fighting in russia changed that. A tiger fighting in the Novo alexadrovka region with front fenders ripped off and a winter whitewash over dunkelgelb was preffered. so, the dremmel came out but, to not damage the tracks they were removed. Its much easier and, not as hard as one imagines, and allows the weathering of the tracks and whhels more easily.

Ita all the deck and turret detail bit weathering to do and rebuild. These projects are great fun.
