Gents,

So, here is a SIT REP on todays Auction. This is my second participation (last year and this year) in Old Toy Soldiers Auctions and this year I was a little wowed. There were about 400 or so lots auctioned off today and the highest set I saw sold for was $18,000 for some sort of Britains Band...I think. But, for any K&C fans there was a 1997 People Republic of China Parade Army set complete with marchers, review stand, soldiers presenting arms that went for $6500. It had to have over a 100 figures and was super cool. I stopped bidding at 3K and it went to the high bidder of $6500. So, to whoever won that set, I salute you!

I won Patton, his Jeep and drivers! I had always wanted that set because I am a huge Patton Movie fan and I think I got a good deal. Mañana is the last day and I have a bid on a couple of items so wish me luck.

Wan't me! I was the guy bidding against the winner at the end!
I just couldn't pull that last trigger! probably shouldn't have done the one before. I told myself I'd bid up to $4500 for it and got lost in the excitement. Probably just as well I lost {sm2}

There were some weird things happening too - one K&C RCMP went for $110 while another, the same thing went for $225! really bizarre.

I grabbed the Trophy double decker carriage and was psyched with that. Got some other random things too. It was a good day for me at prices I was very happy with....now to do my homework before tomorrow!

ZB,

I though for sure you were the "high roller" who pulled it off. I stopped at $3900...and there was no way I could gone any higher. I bid on RCMP's as well and knew that they would go higher as they got rarer. That double decker carriage was super cool and good on you for getting that one.

See you online tomorrow.

GULP! And I think twice at $39.

There were a couple of head scratchers between yesterday and today. I am amazed at what some things brought. Some good buys out there too, but a lot of it is high b/c you have a concentrated audience who is really interested and knows the product. The same items on ebay will not bring near the bids. It really is weird.

I knew Pla wasn't going without a fight!

Al,

I do think twice at $39 too, but I had planned for a good stretch of cash on this one because of its enormity and rarity. Frankly, I have not seen one of these for sale in it's entirety like that. It was a good set for sale and bravo to the the winner.

Ha, ha, I wish. Louis already has the PLA and although I would like to get some I don't have that kind of cash to burn. At $6,500, the cost comes to $7,800 (with 20% commission added in). For 100 figures that's not a terrible price per figure. Unless you're really wed to having 100 figures, you could sell some to recoup the cost.

I completely forgot about the auction or I would have given Zach a run for his money on the bus. I also wanted to bid on some of the Rough Rider mounted figures as I have a few but not all. Oh, well.

WOw - Greenwood and Ball! I just never understood it -some of those went for $1,000 per!

Brad,

The RR figures were super nice and thought about bidding on those guys, but I got some other stuff in the works and have to "save up". Anywho, the PLA was a site to see although doesn't JJD have a PLA line?

My guess was you, Louis or Brad!
It wasn't me! The Canadian Mounties and Pla were the only two sets I wanted...and lucky for me I forgot about the auction (very unlike me to do so) I did have a feeling weeks before the auction that the set would do well. I would have bought them Mounties...who won those???

I have to agree with you, Tom. I would talk about Trophy lots only at the auction. Most of them were poorly and incorrectly described, some lots described as Trophy, did not have Trophy figures{sm4}. One lot with Trophy Pathans had 2 K&C Afgan fighters Nothing was really rare or scarce in my view. The prices were mostly silly if you add outrages premium 26%! ( they increased it by 2% since last auction), once you add shipping cost and other charges it would add 30% to the hammer price.
Probably good for the auction house and estate but not so good for collectors.
However perception is reality :) if you think you got a good deal - you did...
Just my 2 cents

Yup, JJD just started a PLA line recently.

Jason,

Well, I will just have to look into that then...there is something about those go-go boots them PLA ladies wear that is kinda cool/sexy. I don't know how they would stand up in Def Con 4, but hey they look good nonetheless. That is probably the only thing that impresses me about the PLA is their marching skills, as it is pretty slick. I would say it even rivals the old USSR parades. The only other "drill teams" out there that are just too cool are the USMC silent drill team and the Texas A&M marching band. And if you ain't seen the later, boy you are missing out! I will give them a shout out any day of the week, twice on Sunday, even though I went to UT.

I won two sets that I bid live on- the sets that I prebid on didn't seem to get registered...?not even on my "liveauctioneer" dashboard. Also- I thought I won (live) a the tiger hunt set so I didn't bid on the other- only to find out that I didn't win.....a little frustrating this time around- but definiltley fun-
I over payed for the tradition rogers rangers (but I collect rogers stuff), and am happy with the RHA gun team I bid for on a whim.
It is the third or fourth time I participated- I enjoy it.

What is fun is screaming out to the wife how much an empty box sold for- or how much something I have sold for- Of course she asks if I then want to get rid of it- lol
