Old Toy Soldier Auctions - Trophy Results (1 Viewer)

Hey Guys, I won these and thought the prices were good.
As Brad listed them :

Civilian Hancocks Ale Dray Set C 76 (also included Sandwich Board Man and Bobbie, for a total of 20 pieces) $180. For 20 pieces, seemed like a good deal.

Horse Drawn Delivery Wagon $160 (T & C I believe)

The horse drawn delivery wagon was the Trophy Toy Soldier Delvery wagon, fits in nicely with a small collection of "toy soldiers" depicted as "toy soldiers"

Congrats Greg. Post some photos when you get 'em, if you have the time :smile2:

Excellent, I'd love to see the pictures too {bravo}}:salute::

How would the price compare Lawrence, would the K&C Boxer usually go for more than the Trophy one or vice versa.

Cheers

Martyn:)

Martyn,

In terms of auction prices, both can command high prices, but this one was certainly on the high end. I have only seen maybe a half dozen of the K&C set, but have seen dozens of the Trophy one. There were certainly fewer of the K&C made, but also fewer who collect K&C glossy, whereas you have more collectors for the Trophy Boxer series, but the set normally came with a US Marine figure. I hope the buyer is not disappointed the set is K&C and not Trophy, and with the condition of the item as the photo of the set appears to indicate a bent base.

I was interested to read that you have a "Hancocks Dray Set". I would love to see a photo - if you could do one for a couple of reasons.

The first is that I used to live in Cardiff - and the Hancocks brewery was a well known landmark at the "town" end of Penarth Road. This, as the name suggests, led to Penarth - where Len used to live and work on his Trophy masterpieces.

The second reason is that my Grandfather used to be one of the Draymen for Hancocks brewery - when horses were still used to deliver their beer around Cardiff. I well remember the beer - good stuff too, although the name Hancocks has sady not survived, as it was absorbed into the "Welsh Brewers" trademark some time around the sixties., I believe.

Thanks for the memories that brought back - johnnybach^&grin

Some of the T & C sets are just great stuff. Sadly, can't afford everything.

Wonder if K & C used this as a concept when doing their Streets of Old Hong Kong range.

...the same way Trophy gained "inspiration" from other companies in its time ^&grin

Since we know that Trophy influenced certain companies, for the ignorant (as in me) who would you say influenced Trophy?

I am not sure but I would think Britain's certainly as some of Trophy's pieces bear an uncanny resemblance.

That is a neat set Martyn and I remember running to the end of the street when visiting my Nan's to see the great big white shire horses trotting down the street pulling the dray for Joshua Tetley what a sight that was!! Ah the good old days :)

Happy days Scott :salute::

I remember seeing the shire horses Young's Ram Brewery at Wandsworth used to deliver beer to customers pubs within a mile or so of the Brewery, the horses were being used right up until 2006 when the brewery closed and production moved to Bedford
