Hi Mr Colt.

May I suggest you check out the latest posts in a diorama thread entitled 'The American civil war diaries' , it shows how stunning scenes can be produced by mixing Britains, First Legion, Conte, Collectors showcase and King and Country. Check it out.Hope this helps

Rob has outlined the available choices. Sizewise First Legion and Britains go together, although I have this secondhand as I don't have any Britains but do have First Legion. However, the style of painting and sculpting is quite different as First Legion is more Russian style but less expensive. If you're interested in First Legion and you want to see how they fit in with your Britains, you could buy a couple of pieces and if you didn't like how they fit, you could probably sell them here, at a slight discount.

I have Britains, Collector's Showcase, and Conte and they all match up well in size and style. I had a King and Country figure but did not persue them as it was a tad bit too big. Nothing wrong with it, I just decided to stay with the other 3 makers for my Civil War figures. -- Al

I think if i had to chose two company"s figures to mix together then my choice would be William Britains and Collectors Showcase...Collectors showcase make some of the best..(IMO) Zouaves on the market, Confederate and Union, and as the Zouave uniform is so different from the typical uniforms of the ACW the slight difference in style/painting is even less obvious......Hope this is of help!!.

What I would suggest is buy one figure from the available manufacturers and then you will have them to test in many scenarios at your leisure. As you will already see many people have different opinions and tastes which, ultimately may be different to your own. Buy the figures if you like them all they are part of your collection if you prefer some to others swap them for ones you want

Welcome to the hobby my good friend! American Civil War is a wonderful range to collect as their are many great companies out there who put forth great products. I collect ACW from 3 companies at the moment: William Britains, King&Country and First Legion. All are great products and offer several different options for their collectors. First Legion goes well with Britains in my opinion and I would suggest looking at the different forum posts that include these figures together. As mentioned above 'The American Civil War Diaries' thread done by UKReb is an outstanding resource as he does an amazing job at blending all makers of ACW together. One could spend hours looking through that thread and find something new every time. King&Country figures are a little taller than First Legion and Britains. First Legion's painting is more advanced than most of the others as well. So...just take time to look at everything you can and come to your own opinions as to what you like. Hope this helps! :)

I agree in general but the difference in style is more or less noticable depending on the figure. However, nothing is as good as your own in-hand comparison.

I have a lot of experience with Britains and First Legion. I paint matched a whole bunch of Britains to go with the FL. If cost is the issue I would seriously check into Frontline. Their figures are a good match in size and paint style. Usually they can be had at a great price. Around $18 US per figure. They have an extensive line of ACW sets. Hope that helps.{sm4}
