ordering from KC/UK... unbelievable (1 Viewer)

Richard,
No offence, but I would say that you've been extremely lucky not to have incurred customs charges when importing toy soldiers. I was charged £40 when I sent my daughter an MP3 player via DHL for her birthday a couple of years ago. This was 50% of the original price. Guess you must catch Her Majesties Commissars on days when the canteen beans are particularly good.
Cheers
H

It could be luck, but I doubt it. I think it's got more to do with the fact that some products DO attract import duty and some DO NOT - depends what it is, and allied to that is the fact that different products attract different rates of duty - :)

Forgive my memory here but i think someone suggested a while ago that we request the supplier write 'Toys' on the box they are sending.I wonder if Shannon/Mandi would do this?.

Hi Richard,i think you have been very lucky mate;).I recently ordered from Treefrog the superb Figarti V1 and got stung for thirty big ones:mad:.I almost always get caught by the good old customs.Perhaps its just me they don't like:eek:!!

Rob

Hi Rob - might it have had something to do with how the item in question was described on the accompanying paperwork? I think what I said in my previous post is correct - some things attract import duty whilst others do not, and how the product is described in the accompanying paperwork can obviously influence whether it is charged or not, and how much - :)

Yes Richard i think your right.I'd like to ask Shannon if she would be prepared to describe my orders as toys, but i don't like taking liberties!

Hi Rob

I'm fairly confident I'm right. You wouldn't be taking liberties now would you, simply making sure you weren't paying for something you didn't have to - I've only ordered once from TT myself and I didn't pay a bean in import duty - nought to do with 'luck' - everything to do with the way goods are classified and charged. Have you ever taken a look at the following website?

http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/dds/tarhome_en.htm

You can find out the import duty payable on all manner of goods coming into the UK from all over the world - very informative - :)

These two sites are interesting too, if the links work:

HM Revenue & Customs uktradeinfo - Home

Commodity codes and the TARIC | Business Link

Apologies if I'm directing you to stuff you are already aware of - :)

Thanks Richard, will check these out.Always good to get some info.:)
