One new series that I would embrace...

would be Vikings...

would anyone else be interested in collecting them if a major manufacturer developed a series?

with the success of the History Channels series..."Vikings"...it has renewed a long time want of mine...

long ago...
Richard Conte did a great job with it...
but sadly...
I don't think it's even practical to hope to find all of those pieces again...
or the two long ships...

I see a figure or two pop up here and there...
and on rare occasions a long ship or two...

I wish a major manufacturer would start this series...I feel like it's an untapped area that could be popular...

I would really like to see John Jenkins Design of King & Country do it...just my choices personally...

would anybody support this?

Mike,

I am proud to support your cause! I was told the other day how awesome the Viking series is and now have to put it on the "to watch" list. I dig the Vikings...especially the mamacita ones. But seriously, they seemed to be missing from the Toy Soldier realm and I wonder why.

John your neighbor

I would absolutely be up for some vikings! I have many aeroart vikings and the Conte ship, but I'd love more

ZB,

Here we go again with ZB pontificating about his collection. YO are you coming to Texas or what?

John from Texas

Haha!
No texas this time. Valley Forge in May and hoping Chicago in the fall

Mike,
Absolutely! Bring on the Vikings!
I love my old Conte Vikings and I have many Vikings from Russian makers.

I would like to see FL take a swing at Vikings. There's a thread on this very topic over on the HB forum.

I sculpted many of the Vikings, Normans and Saxons while working for Conte and would love to revisit the subject. I feel that next to the WWII GIs we did in plastic, the best plastic figures we made were the Saxons. These are rather hard to find these days and I think I only have one of each in my own collection.
I am pretty sure there is still a Viking ship and crew new in the box at The History store in Southern Ohio for sale.

Ken...

there was one of the long ships on here a few weeks ago...unopened for $300 I believe...a good price in my opinion...

so...why did Richard stop on the Vikings...did you guys consider the series had run it's course?

did you personally do the long ships yourself?

lastly...was it a small limited edition on the figures...they seem pretty rare...I hardly ever see them for sale on here or on Ebay?

Ken, You are right about the plastic Conte Saxons very hard to get....I have tried for a few years now!
There was one box on Ebay last year but I pulled out of the bidding as it went all the way up to $190.

I'd go for Vikings and Saxons, Norman Knights too. I have painted hundreds upon hundreds in 28mm and 54mm. Each one an individual warrior which I like very much. Painting slump/ brickwall for about a year. Ken's work for Conte is amazing and hooked me back into 54mm after 30 plus years of war game size figures. So, Yes. More Dark ages please.DSC_0025.JPG

I collected Conte's Vikings once.I had ship # 2.I also had many kits done once which a friend of now has. Here's a pic of one set I had done.

Would you mind telling me how to locate the HB forum that you wrote about?
Thanks,

I hope some manufacturer will pick it up and roll with it...

The Conte Vikings were just before 'my time' and I've been saying for a while that a new Viking range is due. Yes the series is an excellent opportunity in terms of awareness being raised. I'm pretty sure Conte had a few sculpts of some of the characters on the show just before his site shut down for 'maintenance'. Indeed, it could be the series to re-establish himself. In terms of cost, I'd like to see CS do it. Their Rome 43AD range is very good and I think they could do a great job with Vikings.
