Much better show this year than last. I,m referring to the Thur., Fri., Sat., room trading. Just seemed there were more people in the hallways and Saturday wasn,t a ghost town as it was last year. All the doom & gloom after last year just shows it was just an anomolly.
Looking forward to 2015.

Sorry I missed you Gary . . . . . I was only there on Friday. Saw several Treefroggers that I knew but I missed you in the crowd. Glad you had a good time . . . .

Mike, yea sorry we missed. I swear you have a look a like at the show. The first time I seen this guy in the hallway I almost stopped him thinking it was you. I seen him again the next day and almost did the same thing!

I finally posted my first round of photos to the Playset Magazine website. You can see them HERE. I will be posting more.

Overall, I think it was a good show.. As usual, slow at times, busy at others... Attendance may have been down somewhat and the air traffic problems definitely kept some people away.

I had a great time and enjoyed seeing old friends and new.

Thx,

Jim

Gosh we get pictures this year ?

Nice photos. On Saturday, I saw a ton of people gathered about the opening of the "box," which you showed in one of your photos. Not trying to be flip, but was so special about it? ^&confuse

They got to sniff 1957 air from the paper bags--True.^&grin The Captain Gallant was never opened and they said the set sold for 10 grand. I found it kinda strange. They open one set a year at the show. J

Thanks John. Good seeing you as we do every year. Must have been a rare set to sell for $10,000.

There's probably more drama/reverence than there needs to be (for me).. BUT, I enjoy watching an opening of a stapled shut Marx playset that was packed and sealed over 50 years ago... The only time I ever opened one or saw one opened other than at OTSN was Christmas mornings at my house when I was a kid.. For me there's a lot of nostalgia involved.

Glad you guys are enjoying the photos....

hi Jim, great pictures, thank you.
Barzso Colosseum is stunning, really you was inspired by your recent visit in Rome!! ha ha ha
Bravi e complimenti!!!
ciao, Carlo

Thanks to all that have given us pic's and reports of the show. Great job guys. I don't see any report though from the Treefrog, Sierra, Troops of Time dinner. Are we waiting for Steven Chong's usual summary report on this? Was there a special figure this year handed out from any of the companies besides JJ's treasure/scavanger hunt contest? Gary what did you buy? Did any others find some really unique toy soldier finds? Any wooden warbirds make an appearance? Were there deals or was price on the resale market still pretty strong for older K&C sets. George did you have enough room in your van to haul all your money back to Boston in?
I know some of the stuff that happens in Chicago, stays in Chicago but......lets here a few of the shinanigans for us people who couldn't make the show.

I wasn't able to attend the dinner as something I must have had for lunch wasn't agreeing with me, if you get my drift ^&grin This year the speaker was from Frontline. From talking to Pat Wade and his wife, and Carlos (Sentaapua), sounded like it was a good dinner. I don't know if Steven went so there may be no report.

No wooden warbirds that I saw. I do know that one person found a Charlie Chaplin and a bunch of old K & C. From a K & C point of view, that had to be the find of the Show. I found some very old K & C glossy Naps and that made my day, I can tell you. Also picked up a bunch of Trophy.

Altogether, it was a good show.

Gerrard Prime from Frontline was the speaker at the dinner, giving some history about the hobby (and Frontline's place in it). Each person received a Frontline figure...and there was quite an assortment of different ones given out!

Nope; despite all the product I shifted, I almost had to leave Larry behind for lack of room...........:wink2:

As far as retired K & C; I moved a lot of it at very good prices, little to no haggling, sold numerous retired vehicles at 200.00 and up, an AK 39 and WS 70 for 400.00 each, some nice 4 figure sets for 160.00 a pop, also sold some nice Honor Bound items, including a winter Panther.................more on this later as I write my show report..........

No complaints this year. I guess last years show, a disappointment, must have been a one year fluke. Granted I can drive, no airfare cost, but it seems every year what I spend on food and lodging I make up in savings on deals I make at the show. Always fun to speak in person to all the friends I,ve made in this hobby over the years.
Two surprises this year the new plastic figures from Marx-Men and I discovered at my favorite Schaumburg restaurant, Portillos, the chocolate cake milk shake!
I don,t have any old and retired items on my want list so I,m not really looking. A friend of mine who could not attend had asked me to be on the lookout for 4 items, I did, and found all 4 items for sale. That just shows you pretty much can find what you need at the show.
OTSN 2015 already checked on my calender!
