I would be interested to hear other forum members' thoughts on this. My understanding is that it is a bit of a romance primarily targeted at women, but not positive about that. Seems to be pretty authentic from what I have seen, so would be interesting.

My wife is watching it which is generally a bad sign. So you are probably correct at it being directed at women. I gather it's based on a series of popular books (another bad sign).

Yeah it is after a series of books my Missus started watching it and i enjoyed the first EP.

I don't think it being shown here? Possibly too close to the border or the referendum!:)

Have only just got onto this on Netflix.

For those interested in Jacobite Rebellion it is well worth watching.

I am not one for time travel type subjects but have found the time in 1740's Scotland interesting.

Starts off with husband and wife on holiday in Inverness just after WW2. She is an experienced nurse and he is tracing his Scottish heritage. She stands next to a mysterious rock and next thing you know she is back 200 years. He does not know what happened.

She meets her husbands ancestor, a British Captain, who rivals the bad guy in The Patriot for downright nastiness. Naturally he looks like her husband. Anybody who orders a young Corporal to kick a lady on the ground has got to be bad !

She ends up with the local Scots of clan McKenzie ( think Culloden) who think she is a British spy. Naturally the British Captain thinks she is a spy for the Scots. Plenty of treachery and plotting, poisoning and suspected witch craft.

Luckily her nurse experience comes in useful. She also remembers a lot of the history her husband was researching and knows the rebellion not going to work out as the Scots hope.

Whilst trying to get back to her own time she has a fair few problems to deal with.

16 Episodes in first series and 2nd series apparently just come out in UK.

There is quite a bit of romance and some of the "associated activity"{sm4}.

Main actress reminds me of a young Helen Mirren and is a former fashion model.

Am enjoying it so far and would recommended to some of those who like the Jacobite period.

After seeing season 1, I tried reading the book 1
I'm reading actualy book 5 ( in the New World at the eve of american revolution )
8 books ( book 8 this year )
It's what people call " Chicklit", I usualy skip the 2 pages here and there of the "game of love" . I'm not a fan of chicklit but sometime you find gems among them in the subgenre " fantasy"

Just finished the first book in the series..Cross Stitch...not a bad yarn, so will be interesting to see what the TV series does with it. Written from the female's character, possibly appeals to that gender more. Robin.

Robin,
Too slow I know, but Cross Stitch a bit of a yarn :salute::

It really is worth a watch if you enjoy period pieces, though there attempts to shock with graphic sex (not the kind I would normally watch) are pretty effective, the end of last season made me VERY uncomfortable and questioning where this was going.

Yes, that was intense, but what bothers me most is that nobody ever takes a shower or brushes their teeth in these contemporary
period pieces.. And they look it. I probably would have been celibate.

I stopped watching halfway through the last episode, but did eventually watch it before this season started again. I probably would not watch it except for my interest in my Highland / Hebridean Islander ancestors. The caveat is that there is enough manly stuff and historical accuracy to keep me interested and able to accept that there is a feminist message involved. Of course, with a new daughter I am a little more sensitive to women's rights issues.
