This is it guys. The last one.I don't know about the rest of you but it seemed like a quick 10 weeks.I have really enjoyed it and I think a lot of others have also. There has been some bickering on which series was better, BOB or Pacific, both were great in my book but one thing BOB had the advantage in was there was nothing to compare it with. Some might say SPW but that was a 2 hour movie, not an episodic series. So let s sit back tonight and enjoy it.In a couple of weeks I'm going to sit down and watch all 10 episodes and see if I enjoy it even more. That's what I did with BOB.

Looking forward to part 10 but will be sorry to see it end. I, too, will be rewatching the whole series again. It has been a terrific job done by all involved. The series sparked a rereading of the books used in the filming and has sparked an interest in Okinawa which I formally was only slightly acquainted with. I will be delving more deeply into the Okinawa campaign as it obviously was a horrible experience for all involved (all branches of service) and deserves more study on my part. I had been well read in the Pacific war up to Okinawa but for some reason had not gone into Okinawa. At any rate, I have really enjoyed the series. -- Al

I think Marco said it right. Going into this series the first thing everybody did was compare it to BOB. How many times have we all watched BOB, I know I have so many times I have lost count. And by doing so we all got to know the charectors like they were old friends. Now comes The Pacific, all new faces, can,t tell whos who with all the dirt on their faces.
Remember all the complaining here on this board after the first few episodes, but as the series went along complaints got fewer and fewer and praise became more the norm. Now at the series end its kinda hard to find anything wrong with this series.
I will say this about The Pacific, it was much more intense than BOB.
My only negative would be episode 3 and the first 50 minutes of the Iwo episode, I will fast forward those when I get the DVD, while BOB every episode could be watched over and over.

Well its over and I'm sorry to see it end. I do believe what Hanks and Spielberg both said about this series--its the best they or anyone has ever done yet. I don't see anyone ever making one more intense than this one--it was monumental!!! Did anyone else notice that the theme music sounded alot like the theme from Gettysburg? It sounded alot similiar in places where the drums were etc.. Can't wait until the dvd comes out................Stryker

I recorded it off TV so I'm going to sit down Memorial Day weekend and watch it again. Also HBO is replaying the whole series May 30 and 31,5 episodes each day.Hope we won't have to wait another 10 years for something like this again.

I think the series takes an equal standing with BOB. I will watch this countless times whenever it comes on. I'm glad it worked out well for Sledge and most of the others in the end. I don't know how you can go through something like that, and just come back Stateside and try and act like nothing happened. We owe all our freedoms to the brave men and women who served this great country, and still do. I know we do take things for granted in this country, but Memorial Day should be everyday in our thoughts.:)

Yes it would be weird to go through something like that and come back and resume your life like nothing had happened.

There are a few self described knowledgable types here that believe that.

I must say that I liked episode 10 the best. It just grabbed my heart and wouldn't let go. A very appropriate ending to a magnificent series. -- Al

Not really sure it worked out well for Sledge. He was having nightmares, didn't want to put on his uniform ever again, had a bit of a problem finding a career for himself, had a meltdown on a hunting trip with his father, who can blame him.

Taking part in two of the bloodiest, most horrific campaigns in the Pacific will do that to you.

Leckie looked a bit more adjusted than Sledge did, time will tell. Loved it when his boss at the newspaper said it was awful what you soldiers went through and his reply was "I was a Marine."

Now I know the meaning of the saying once a Marine, always a Marine, they went through Hell, most of them were just kids, they did a superb job in the Pacific vs an fantatical enemy.

This series shouldn't be compared to anything else because nothing else has come close to this and nothing ever will. We saw what meat grinders Pelelui and Okinawa were, just brutal.

As bad as Omaha Beach was, the Marines had what, 10 Omahas? 12?

And I'm with Al; this episode was my favorite. Really, really got to me.

The end where they showed what happened to all the characters was a nice touch.

And Snafu is still my favorite; nice to see he didn't end up in the nuthouse as some have suggested he would, reconected with Sledge after the war and Sledge was a pallbearer at Snafu's funeral.

They all earned the right to be called Marines.

Forever.

For me the only comparison in the two series is the quality, realism and skill in getting across what the troops went through.Whether it was the Alligator creek fight or the bombardment in Bastogne it is all brilliant. They are totally different theatres and cannot be compared, and how can we say dying in the freezing cold of Bastogne or the life sapping heat of the Pacific is worse than the other?.The important thing is that ALL THEATRES are remembered and appreciated equally. There is a perception that the Pacific has been overlooked by film,tv etc (but I suggest not by us Military History Buffs)so I hope this has been righted by this superb Pacific series.

I've said it before and I 'll say it again, whether they died in a burning Hurricane over Britain,on the beaches of Normandy,on Iwo Jima or Stalingrad or the sands of Tobruk, all allied deaths brought us closer to final victory in WW2.God bless them all I say,and thats why on Rememberance day I wear my Poppy with pride.

A great post.

I loved it...This series seemed to spend more time on character and personal lives then BOB did. Great action all throughout..Every bit as good as BOB for us who appreciate the Pacific Campaign more than others..Don't hold your breath on any soldiers manufacturers to bust out with and Pacific sets of Marines and Japanese though..Just not enough money in it for them...join my boycott of those makers...

A standing ovation,BRILLIANT,in its own right now like previously said wait for the blu-ray and watch it as many times as ive watched BOB.

Saw this final episode last night. I enjoyed it a lot, and found it very moving, especially some parts like Sledge's return to his parent's homes. A tremendous series, took me a while to get into it, but from episode 6 onwards I felt the series really took off. I hope to get it on DVD and enjoy it for years to come!
Watching this series reminded me of or made me feel like this: yes we are going through an economic crisis, many people are out of a job, many others feel that their living standards are dropping. But maybe also we have become accostumed to being fat consumers. Just compare what we are going through with the peoples plight during the World Wars, the Holocaust, the massive Eastern Front slaughter, the way losers like Germany or Japan literally rose from the ashes to become economic powers. Sobering stuff IMHO.
