Hi, all! I thought I'd post this, to ask about Phoenix.

Have any of you heard--since Soldierpac went out of business, has anyone else picked up the molds, to start making castings again?

I think John Eden has some of the Georgian figures in his catalog, along with his Rose (Gammage) figures. (Some of the Georgian figures may have been the "inspiration" for Frontline's Colonial Classics, too ;) ) But I don't know of any other source, currently, to find the castings, except on the secondary market.

The last bit of info I had from Soldierpac was an email from one of the owners that there had been an offer and that there was a possibility of someone picking up the line, but I haven't heard anything since.

Prost!

A bit of a followup--I sent an email to the gentleman from Soldierpac I'd written to before, and received a response that they still haven't found a buyer for the business, though it's been a year. So, everything is still in limbo.

I'll post back as I learn more, and please, anyone who knows of other sources for Phoenix, please share the info with us!

Prost!

Hi Brad,

I see a reference on the internet that Metal Modeles has taken over the 80mm Phoenix Follies range. Phoenix Model Developments has now become a maker of 1/12 and 124 scale dollhouse accessories.

Thanks, Victor! Have you seen anything about any of the 54mm ranges?

Prost!

The demise of Soldierpac is a great disappointment. I was certainly a frequent customer. They filled a unique niche in our hobby, and allowed access to figures that are not otherwise commercially available. I hope they are able to sell the business and we are able to have access to this treasure-trove of figures again. I have not seen anything about Phoenix other than the occasional piece here and there.

Hi Brad and PJ,

Sadly, the 1/32 scale is not to be found except on eBay sites. I was also looking for their carriages - the Bygone Era 1/43 scale and was directed to S&D models:

be careful though, when I clicked on some tabs, my computer came up with virus warnings.

The Phoenix 1/32 (54mm) range, 75mm figures and G-Scale figures was bought by S & D Models in October 2010. S & D Models bought the 1/43 Range a few years back when Phoenix Model Developments was originally broken up . S & D Models are working through the moulds and renewing from masters where necessary in order to re-produce fine quality lead-free pewter castings. As the items, are brought back into production, they are made available only through Forty-third Limited at present.

Hello Ads,

Great news! I look fwd to the revival of this range. Rgds Victor

That is good news, indeed! They have the whole Georgian series listed, so hopefully it won't be long before they've got them in production.

Hi All,

I recently sent an email to 1/43 with some queries. No response. I am not sure whether they are active as the website has been rather static for some time now.

Rgds Victor

Thanks for the update, Vic! I've never tried ordering anything from them, in the meantime since we posted this thread, and I wouldn't be surprised if they might have some issues and the business is idle.

Prost!

Hi Brad,

Just got an email response. 1/43 is tied in with S&D Models. I will try ordering a few Phoenix items from them.

Rgds Victor

Thanks, Vic! It's good to know that they're still operating. I'll be interested to hear how your transaction goes.

Prost!

I ordered from them a couple of years ago and it was a very quick turnaround, with no problems.

Good, I'm glad that went off well! What is the URL for S&D again?

It's interesting to look at those chairs and the piano and to recognize how many manufacturers have "borrowed" those pieces for their own catalogs. Look at Frontline's Colonial Classics, for example. That salon chair is used with a couple of the seated figures. So are some of the tavern furnishings, and a couple of the figures show their ancestry in PMD's catalog.

And I have a set of the young Mozart at 3, sitting at that piano, on a Phoenix footstool, made by Little Metal Men out of Kentucky, I believe it was.

Prost!

Ah, thanks, no, I didn't realize that S&D was Forty-third. I should drop the hammer and order the figures I want. I have a couple of Phoenix Georgian sets, the chess players, and the officer saying good-bye to his wife and children. I also have odds and ends of furniture, and some of the small diorama sets (eg, dishes & silverware, candlesticks, picture frames). I want to get the chamber musicians.

I'll have to take a picture of the Mozart figure. It's not a very good sculpt, the detail is soft. Still, it's the only time I had seen any depiction of Mozart in 54mm and toy soldier finish. I may repaint it someday. I had tracked down Little Metal Men's catalog, because they had a set of Bavarians in Tracht in their catalog, which I had seen at a show. But I think they've closed up shop; their website, http://littlemetalmen.homestead.com/littlemetalmen.html, is now defunct.

Prost!
Brad
