Photos from the 2014 show (1 Viewer)

Thanks, Andreas! I've got to get IDs for many of the exhibits, too. I tried to get the names as I went along, and some I can identify, like Rod's pieces, Don Johnson's, Pat Deluhery's and Walt Damons. It will probably take a while to get all of the names. I do have them all uploaded now to Photobucket, so, I will start posting them here later. At 10 pics a post, it'll be a minimum of around 24 additional posts, but it'll likely be more, with things grouped in ways that make sense.

Prost!

Brad,
Given that some of us are not able to be at the event, all pics are more than wellcome:D:D

Hi Brad,
Do you know by any chance who was selling that huge collection of STADDEN soldiers in the first picture of the set Andanna loaded?
if you do, could you let me know?
Cheers

Yes, AC, those were on offer by Ben Michel, a longtime dealer and fixture at the shows here. They are the remnants of a lot that he bought back in September. I saw him at the New Jersey Historical Miniature Associates' show in October, and he had them there. I think he said he had to miss both the Chicago and the East Coast shows, so these were still left. A lot of Napoleonics and 1900's. I got one of my Seven Years' War figures from Ben.

Prost!

Marion & Allan Ball apparently have a collector-customer who commissions figures after illustrations by N.C. Wyeth:

Stimmt und richtig, Andreas, right you are! I asked them about this piece, given the previous one from "The Last of the Mohicans". I thought they themselves had a fondness for the Wyeths, but Marion explained about the commission. They headed to the museum yesterday, too, to look at the collection there.

It is a beautiful piece, of the quality Alan and Marion and known for.

Prosit!

OK, getting started, multitasking while handling some work-related things...

From Friday afternoon, here's Pat Deluhery from the Massachusetts IPMS Wings & Wheels club, while we were both going through another stash of Stadden and Lasset figures:

and here they are:

I had to wipe the drool from my mouth. I wound up buying 7 figures from this stash. On the other corner of the vendor's table was this group of painted Staddens, Lassets, and some other makers:

More from the same dealer...

More from this series in the next post...

Continuing with photos from the dealer's table. You'll probably recognize the manufacturers of some of these...

More to come...

And more from the same dealer...

In this display case, he had pieces that had come through our exhibition over the years:

It was amusing to see, as the artist who had painted this figure or that would pass by and see his work in his cabinets. The vendor then put post-its on the bases, as he got IDs for them. This one was painted by Diego Rivera, I believe. I was there when he ID'd his piece:

And more in the cabinets...

And then the rest of the painted Staddens/Lassets:

These were marked as painted by Jean Abell, with whom I'm not familiar. They were also priced at $150 each. Now you know why I buy castings :D

These were the last of the photos that I got in the vendor area. In the next installment, I'll start with my photos from the exhibition itself.

Thanks for looking, enjoy! Prost!

Saturday morning, we opened the hall at 7AM, to let the vendors get to their tables, and to get ready for the public opening time of 9AM. That's when I can get into the exhibition and get a look at the pieces. I started with entries in the Toy Soldier category. There were two displays, submitted by Pat Deluhery and Walt Damon. Here are some shots of Pat's, "Greetings from El Aurence!", I believe was his title:

and some close-ups:

Pat used King & Country and Thomas Gunn figures, if I remember correctly, as his raw materials.

Here's Walt's display, depicting a lull in the action at the Alamo:

and some closeups of his detailing work:

Walt worked with King & Country and John Jenkins figures, I believe it was. It was nice to see some exhibits in the Toy Soldier category this year, and I encourage anyone else here in the forum, who builds dioramas or even just modifies and repaints anything classified as a toy soldier, and who can get it to a show, please to do so. There is a lot of great work in this genre, which is overshadowed by the connoisseur painters, and it really shouldn't be. OK, down from the soapbox. Next installment, exhibits from the Ordnance category.

Prost!

I want to add my agreement to what has been said about attending the shows. This show in particular is outstanding and is one-of-a kind in that it has the figure exhibit and competition. I don't know of anywhere else in the US where you can see so many great artists in our hobby submit their works. It is beyond words what an experience it is. Here are some that I thought were quite unique:

This was one of Walt Damon's entries:

This one was scratch built by John Rosengrant. It was my favorite at the show:

This one was very unique and it took multiple photos to capture it all:

I loved that piece depicting the trappers, Mark, but my battery died before I could get to it. Thanks for posting the photo!

Some additional shots of the displays Pat Deluhery and I set up at MFCA. We split the award for best new toy soldier display which was a nice touch. One of the good things in setting up the displays, is you can add to it real time as you make purchases through out the day......can you see the the latest add to my Alamo collection by comparing the photo here and one from Brad earlier? Both of us fielded a lot of questions about the backdrops, and I suspect will be a new add to a few collections when collectors return home from the show. The better news we at least got 2 more people to commit to bringing displays to next years show, so hang in there............hopefully we can revive this category to its prior greatness. Don't get blinded by the shirts...part of our show uniform (there are 4 others besides us) and become quite a hoot when they turn into chick magnets, in concert with the HARMLESS tattoos stamped on our foreheads.
Who says shows cant be a great load of fun

Walt, thanks for that shot of you and Pat with your pieces! I'm working on getting the awards for Toy Soldiers to be set up the same way as we do for the other categories, it's been a goal of mine, ever since I joined.

George, there's just so much tasty on your tables, my eyes swam every time I went by, couldn't decide where to focus.

We were missing the red & blue diorama this year...

Now my favorites; 28mm Napoleonics, these looked awesome............

I loved these, very well done and painted, superb.

Thanks a million to all of the collectors who supported me and to Brad and the rest of the club members who put this show on, always has been and always will be one of my favorites..........................
