Hi Guys,

By the time most of you see this little film Gordon and yours truly will be on a Cathay Pacific 777 somewhere over the Pacific heading for California and Sierra Toy Soldiers in Los Gatos.

While there we will be talking about two exciting and colourful new series we are launching in Chicago...Actually, one is not quite so new...but it is a great retelling of a much-loved K&C range of figures and buildings from more than 15 years ago! More about that at a later date.

The other new series however is a complete departure for K&C to a historical period relatively unrecognized...certainly in the toy soldier world – THE ENGLISH CIVIL WAR!

Introducing PIKE & MUSKET

For many years now I have been fascinated by this mighty struggle that helped forge the Britain of today. This war between a headstrong King, Charles I, who believed in the “Divine Right of Kings” to rule his subjects as he saw fit and...Parliament, an elected body of commoners together with a House of Lords that wished to have their say in how the country was governed.

A clash of arms was inevitable and civil war erupted in 1642. This new range offers a wide panorama of figures, buildings, accessories and other details that will encompass many aspects of military and civilian life during the 17th Century.

This first release of just a few Parliamentary soldiers (roundheads) and their principal leader, Oliver Cromwell is but a taste of what is to come. Already artillery and cavalry plus more infantry and civil war “personalities” are, as we like to say, “in the works.”

As you will see in the short film attached to this message the very special “Fortified Manor House” built by Gordon and featured extensively earlier on the Forum (with other figures) was specifically designed to display these first “PIKE & MUSKET” releases. Enjoy and...Happy collecting!

That is something definitely different and the building really shows them off well. Well done Andy.

Very interesting looking new series Andy, will look forward to watching this line grow. Thanks for posting and enjoy your trip . Bet you're glad you'll still be flying back to the UK after today's vote mate:salute::

Brilliant figures, Andy !!

Looks like a 'New Model Army' that will take some of the 'wind out of the New World', as their Civil War, 200 year later has seemed to dominate the toy soldier markets recently.

Good to see that you have ventured into new territory, but I also will be expecting some Scotsmen, as they took had a substantial amount of soldiers in this era.

I'm sure that the new Civil War Centre in Newark on Trent will promote more interest in this pivotal era of British history, so I'm really looking forward to seeing the Royalist forces and King Charles in the near future.

Well Done !!!

John

Andy,

An interesting subject to choose for a new series.

The figures look great and Gordon's building sets them off nicely.

The attendees at Chicago will certainly have something to remember.

Regards
Mark

Looks awesome but for me personally i couldn't afford all the multiples to make it look as good as the vid.

A very interesting and colorful era for production. I am looking forward to seeing the gorgeous cavalry of the ECW. -- Al

Got to say the more I look at this range the more I like it, the idea of Roundhead cavalry also appeals very much indeed.

I don't know much about that period of history at all
Looks like a great series.
I keep myself to the English speaking world from 1800-1950 and that is more than enough to keep me busy

While I liked Richard Harris in Cromwell; Not sure of the economic viability of this new line as it seems too niche for anyone outside of the UK in my opinion. Plus as already mentioned in this thread not sure if people will want to buy multiples to build a formation similar to the criticism of another TS manufacturer doing the roman tortoise. Regardless, it should be a colourful series so kudos for at least taking the chance to mix it up as there is nothing out in the market in matte... I guess with TG's allied intervention of 1919 announced this week, civil war is en-vogue on the TS circuit .....

cheers

What Allied intervention

Mr Neilson is slightly incorrect when he states that the ECW has been overlooked by the toy soldier world as he appears to have overlooked the considerable range produced by ATS which consists of infantry, cavalry, artillery and personality figures of both Roundhead and Cavalier persuasion. And before the usual comments about gloss figures commences please take note that ATS will paint either matt or gloss dependant on the customer's wishes. Trooper

Very nice looking figures that cover an important but niche collection. I expect sales outside of the UK will be somewhat limited. And for the collector serious about that period, the large formations will add up to a big expense. But the Manor House is a custom order like the Alamo display. And like the Alamo figures, I wonder if the Roundhead figures are plastic resin at two for $30? I hope so because I would like to get a few as examples. ^&confuse

We often make calls for manufacturers to explore different areas so it will be interesting to see how this range develops. It is a fascinating period of history with colourful figures and characters so let's hope that it is a success and that innovation is rewarded...then there will be more of it!
