Polish Winged Hussars (2 Viewers)

The Wings are interesting in that there is some disagreement as to the function ie ornamentation or actually a weapon or defensive tool I have read that they were sharpened metal to be used as defensive weapons against one of the favored weapons of the light infantry the lasso. How easy is it to defeat heavy Hussars when they are laying in a pile on the ground. Still they are some of my favorites!

I will post some pictures of the ones I have so far.

Hope you all find this interesting.

Dave

Just catching up from the posts during the evening. Thank you to everyone for sharing their pictures of these troopers. I was in the camp with Combat in believing that the wings were an item of intimidation. Seems like there was some measure of actual functionality to the "wings" too. His mention of the "whistling" effect was the first I had ever heard of that- anyone else hear that too? I gotta think it is certainly plausible.

While watching the trailer- granted, it's a movie, the ornamentation on the Hussars in the movie do not seem to be as grand as those presented in the TS world. Thoughts???.....

Beautiful collections there guys- Combat, that really must be a treasured piece in the collection for sure.

Stay tuned for more "Eastern army" type questions. My eldest son is really REALLY getting into the armies and histories of Russia and the Eastern European countries- he's taking me to task so I need the forum members to act as a crash course/ Cliff Notes on the subject. {sm3}

Apparently the effect of the wind ripping through the hollow quills of the feathers produced an effect akin to the Jericho syrens on the Stuka dive bombers. The sight of a mass of winged men charging towards you accompanied by a weird banshee scream would undoubtedly give cause for the biological washing powder to be put to the ultimate test. Trooper

{sm4}{sm4} Still true to form- you probably heard my laugh across the "pond".

I posted some pictures from my trip to Moscow last year. The Red Army museum etc. Lots of great stuff. Unfortunately few English translations. So a bit of guesswork. In the Red Army museum there was what appeared to be a pile of rubbish from a crash. Had no idea what it was until I looked it up later and discoverd it was the remains of Gary Powers' U2 plane! Anyway here is the thread:

Combat- thanks for the pictures- that must have been a world class museum. Shame you couldn't obtain a translator. Would have been interesting to see what all of that said I bet.

Osprey do a publication on the Polish winged Hussars in their Warrior series. Covers the general history fairly extensively, well worth getting. Trooper

Sierra has some nice ones in their St.Petersburg section but most are out of stock.A little on the high side pricewise.{eek3}

Thanks Dave. There are collectors out there that never post photos that have huge Trophy collections. I think it is neat to exchange photos and information on this forum with other collectors. I have learned a lot, made great friends, and have now seen some figures and sets that I never knew existed-total fun!

Amen to that Tommy :salute:::salute::

Hi Tommy,

I couldnt agree more! I was talking to Pat about this not too long ago, mainly we were chatting about the solitary nature of the Toy Soldier Collectors. We are thankful that the internet has brought so many of us together on this site and others so we can discuss our collections and show off photos of the special pieces. I always enjoy seeing what the guys have hidden away and suddenly bring out to discuss. This thread really highlights that notion because I would never have thought there were so many folks interested in The Winged Hussars and had examples from so many different makers to share.I have to say that the Trophy figures are very high on my to do list! That said what I would really like to know is how many sets they produced and their numbers so I can search a little better. I have some trips to the UK planned in the coming Year so if any of you guys have this information please let me know, maybe I'll get lucky at a show or who knows maybe a flea market...

Hi HSM,

If you have a link to the Delprado site or some site that sells them then please post the link. The only form of advertising that isnt allowed is stuff like advertising the sale of beachwear or some other thing that isnt related to Toy Soldiers. If you are unsure of what is allowed send an email or PM to one of the moderators and we will let you know.
