The economic situation isn't affecting toy soldier buying...the political situation that could be is, though. Buying ammo instead of soldiers!:D:D

To protect the haves from the have-nots? That's not fair;) 5.56, 7.62, 12g,
.22, 9 and .45 all readily avail.

Hmmmm I prefer Buckshot/50 Cal/Buckshot every other round in the Benelli

just in case I have to stop a truck or something.:D

Sorry John, the Benelli is overpriced and puts your line-of sight down too far on the weapon. I had one with just a PG for narc-entry and I tell you, I much prefer the Rem 870 workhorse-even now for wabbit hunting. I do agree on what you're throwing down-range, 12gauge.:) Mike

Mike:

Personally I always carry what I consider to be the best, as I only expect to get one chance.

I prefer the HK M13, and my Benelli which fires 7 rounds in one second. Gun

is empty before 1st ejected shell hits the ground.

For close in fire power loaded with buckshot and slugs tough to beat.

When I used to answer alarm calls many years ago, I carried an SP89 with

two 35 round clips instead of the Benelli because it could be worn under a

light jacket on a harness.:)

As a former FFL dealer I have handled all types of weapons, HK is my go to.

I agree, Keckler & Koch is #1 as a product. Carried the P7M13 for all the nineties. I would suggest not emptying the B in less than 1 second, there may be more targets out there. It's called "Glockin' ".
Thanks Larry for deviating from the original topic:D Mike

Mike:

I agree, though the sound would be enough to wake the dead.

You could certainly reload long before any "sane" person would look your

way again!:D

Heckler & Koch make excellent weapons. Never owned one. Just borrowed them while on the range. My department here unfortunately is stuck in the 90s with us carrying S&W 5906. My old department had Glock 22s and I loved that weapon.

Wish I could have found what my wife's company found...an intact .50 cal still on a tripod on land that used to be part of Camp Tarawa where marines trained from '43-'45. Her company is removing ordinance and other things buried when the marines left.

My ammo buys right now are 7.62 for the AK-47, 5.45 for the AK-74 and shotgun ammo. I like to have a 1000 rounds each for the AKs plus a good mixture of slug and buck shotgun rounds.

We don't call 911 at my house. :D:D Takes the cops too long to get there!!

Well, I have been a pretty big collector for more than 15 years, and it has not only effected my buying habits, it has caused me to completely stop buying Toy Soldiers for the present. Common sense tells me to sock away all my money for a rainy day, as I see it raining cats and dogs for some time now . . .:(

Like you've stated before, Louis, Receivables are horribly slow from customers
right now, and most of mine, if not all are state gov't. If govt agencies arent paying, who is.? It would be wise to heed your advisement, and if not at least look before leaping.

I've gone to almost strictly bargain hunting ie: ebay, I have been planning a 400.00 buy but after tonight election results I've decided to sit on this as well.

You beat me on the ebay anti-tank gun yesterday by 1 cent..that was a nice buy:D:D

I have put any buying on hold for now, over here in Denmark we can also feel the bad Economic situation very much.:(:(

Hope Barak Obama can lift us all back up again (I am saying this without wanting to get into any political discussion).

I can guarantee you that he cannot (any more than McCain could have) but all economic events have cycles so it is reasonable to expect that this one will as well.;):D The best we can reasonably hope is that he will not make it worse, which is also quite possible.

Sorry to do that to a fellow treefrogger, since they started hiding identities you can't tell who your bidding against. I use to make it a policy not to bid against friends and aquaintances ie: treefroggers, but you can't tell now.
That's the first time I ever beat anyone by one cent!

This is a rather shocking "confession". Unfortunately, I suspect its emblamatic of where a lot of people either already are, or will find themselves. Discretionary spending always gets hit especially hard in a recessionary environment, and we are in for a doozy.

Its worth noting that collectors share blame for the higher prices in affect. Through constantly urging better, more realistic, accurate, detailed, nuanced, etc. products, we have essentially forced up manufacturing costs. Improvements are good, but each incremental "upgrade" ultimately raises the final price paid by the consumer/collector.

It can be tough to go backwards in one's standards. But its happening in other places. Consider the auto industry. Cars are getting smaller and "less frilly" - dramatically so in some cases. Same is true in the housing industry. Perhaps that will happen here as well.

It seems likely there will be considerable disturbance in the industry. High end product lines, like K&C, will fight harder to capture more market share in a shrinking market. Margins will be squeezed throughout. New product development will slow on the manufacturing side. Manufacturers may also "cull the herd" in terms of distributors. They will want to ensure their best dealers remain loyal and in business. Less expensive lines (like K&C's Del Prado?) could gain traction as collectors trade down. One area of growth could be niche players with a specialized product focus, such as John Jenkins.

Interesting days ahead.

Perdicting market demand and changes is always difficult, if not impossible. I don't think standards will go backward here any more than they have in cars; rather the relative popularity of certain features will ebb and flow with a current trend toward the more cost effective options.

I think we are saying the same thing. "Backwards" is probably not the best word - "priorities"? Certainly I think the growing emphasis on cost effectiveness will continue as a trend. Witness the falling prominence of a Whole Foods vs less pricey Costco, Wal-Mart, et al. Maybe painting one's own kits will experience a resurgence? And/or some mix or higher degree of customization (ala Honour Bound).

I agree completely that accurately predicting future demand trends is nigh on impossible - but certainly there is big change afoot!
