That's the great thing about being a Yankee, a redneck, a Scot or a Dutchman from Lehigh County-we always believe in cost-effectiveness. Sure, detractors call us cheap, but more accurately, we're frugal. Waste nothing! So, when times get tight, we're ready to weather the storm.

Prost!

Articles today in WSJ regardung "Needs vs Wants" and "Frugality over (brand) Loyalty". What about a "private label" company... Treefrog Toy Soldiers???? :D:D:p

All ready has. My spending is way down. I was going to start selling some of the extras I had bought to finance my hobby and am not able to sell them based on whatI have seen on ebay sales.

I have only purchased one collectible set on eBay this year. It was a Britains swoppet Confederate gun set (Mint in Box) for about 30% less than they went for about 2 years ago which was the last time I tracked sales for these particular items. Prices are deflating in just about every type of asset and I don't expect this trend to turnaround anytime soon. I am not planning any new purchases in the hobby in the intermediate term. I'm just going to enjoy what I already have. :)

I think you're on the right track...I'm going to keep a look-out for sets I would really need (like) to have, and reserve more time for playing and research & reading. This depression is not fun & games and it is going to get very bad in the next 6 months. Hold on to your seats but don't kiss your a#$ goodbye!! Just be prepared, and for a real treat, try a "Victory Garden" this year!

This economic downturn is global and here to stay for a while (some say 2 to 4 years which is pretty long).

The question is how much worse will it get?

The worst case scenario at the individual level is to be out of a job at this horrid time.

It would be prudent to give priority to essential expenses like electricity, water, petrol and the like.

More than 50% have scaled down on toy soldier purchases, so the poll goes.

It was 60:40 the last I looked and will probably level off just short of 65:35.

There will be some bargains appearing now and then for the "hard to find" sets and this will be a "go for it" for some.
