Porsche King Tiger (zimm). Comparisn to K&C KT (PICS) (2 Viewers)

its better to think of the zimmerit coat as a paste rather than a paint and, it was very difficult to remove once set shells did remove it which, chipped away at the layers but, on an AFV it was quite hard to ignite
Mitch

Looks like your right Mitch :salute::
Zimmerit was discontinued from factory application on 9 September 1944 and from field application on 7 October 1944. This was due to baseless concerns that projectile impacts could set it on fire. These proved false, but the order was never rescinded

I think I can put my mind finally to rest on this Zimm paste issue, thanks to Neil, Mitch & Terry. Cheers, Robin.

Another reason for the discontinuation was the move away from hand placed weapons to projectile weapons such as the bazooka, PIAT, Panzerschrek, Panzerfaust etc.

You gotta admit, trouble finding someone to run up to a KT to place a magnetic charge on it was probably the reason for the advancement of projectile weapons. Not a job for the slow of foot.:wink2: -- Al

Bet it gave the slow of foot a little encouragement to become a little faster of foot though. Must have been the PT Corps that came up with the idea of magnetic mines, as a bit of a giggle.

Anyone have pics of the CS Henschel version with the KC? The Henschel has always been my favorite and is the iconic "King" in my opinion.

My CS Henschel winter no zimm KT arrived yesterday. This is my first tank from CS. Overall it's a well made piece. I notice that it's lighter than the KC Snow Tiger eventhough it's a larger piece ( could it be that some parts i.e. wheels, tracks... are made of hard plastic ?). There are couple small paint chips on the tank commander's hat. I like the paint job & weathering of the tank a lot. It's very nicely done.
Here are few quick pictures.

Superb AFV. I went for the winter versions with no zimm also I think they beat the normandy versions hands down in colourway and weathering. I think CS use a different medium than K&C which, makes them lighter possibly a mix of metal resin etc in fact. I am quite ok with that as it makes no difference as I don't buy, when I do, based on weight.

Very Nice Model...I wish that CS would have exposed some sections of the tank tracks I think it makes for a better looking King Tiger Model...especially in a sideview....The use of hard plastic probably allows for better detailing....For the "Kit Bashers" out there does it seem that it would be difficult to remove some sections of the fenders...Are they made of plastic???

Vezzolf....

Would be no difficulty in removing the skirts at all I don't know what materials CS use (probably a combo of those available) but, the skirts do not seem to be metal to me
Mitch

Are all of the new CS King Tigers this darker shade of green? Does anyone have any pictures of the Normandy version? I must admit I like K&C lighter camo scheme better.

It Plastic Mitch , one of mine is not fixed very well & fell off

I thought resin but, you are probably correct its hard to differentiate between some of the mediums used. I got the camera back the other day and took some pics of TG and its broke again so, will not be able to post new pics till it is now exchanged for a new one on monday.

I will post some pics of the conversion job I am going to do on it when its done. Perhaps uksubs or others with working camera's can help you your request

Mitch,

I don't buy based on weight either, just an observation. The more I look at it the better it gets. I just wish that CS make a second half body tanker for the other opening hatch. I used KC half body tanker ( from my Elefan AFV) on it and like it a lot.

I think more half body tank crews have been asked for several times across the hobby and would be a welcome release from any manufacturer

It does not look right with the mudguards off. There is a groove the mudguards are glued into that is visible if you pull off the fenders.

Yep your right & the only way round it would to fill the groove & repaint it
