Gentlemen,
I’m certain a lot of you are already well aware of the major auction by the Old Soldiers Auctions U.S.A., scheduled for 20 November 2010. Principally the late Fred Wehr Collection of predominantly boxed and unboxed vintage Britains; there is an additional element of the auction which bears on the emerging situation with King & Country, i.e. discounting and retroactive price increases. Specifically at auction will be 107 boxed sets of King & Country figures and vehicles. That count includes 14 certificated sets of the Arnhem ’44 Series. I think the hammer price (plus 18% buyer fee! Too rich for my blood!) on these sets will offer some “guidance/insight” to the learned members of this forum as to “Whence goeth the King with the Country”. In addition there is an extensive offering of Imperial and Hocker sets on the auction block as well. This auction is huge. Also contains some Trophy, Tradition, Hiriart, and others. The KC is mostly grouped at the beginning of the 2nd day and has what appears to be really low estimates on quite a bit of the stuff. Worth looking at. Thanks for posting Arnhemjim. -- Al

They're low estimates but I'm sure they will be high at the end. Moreover, the publicity here on the Forum will raise prices. I'm sure those who were hoping to get it less expensively won't be too happy with Jim

Sorry for the "l" on html. IMO anyone that is willing to look into paying an 18% Buyers Premium (even if it is accepted as the "norm") shouldn't have too much trouble with a little competitive bidding.

I took a look at the full catalogue. He has some K & C glossy and I suppose the estimates may be right. However, some of the WW II material is quite off. For example, they have a Winter Tiger, WS 15, at $100 to $150. If you add an extra zero to that you may be in the ballpark. Also, WS 20, the first 88, is estimated at $150-200. It will be $500 and up.

In addition, they've made the mistake of separating the 88 Crew (Lot 1101) from the 88 (Lot 1100). It's all one set. The only two that should get separated are the range finder and the commander as they're a separate set, WS 21.

Those are still the old prices. They don't go up until January 1.

I still need the Arnhem Jeeps but am not willing to spend crazy money. I can live without them.

Isn't this what auctions do? In the UK they do lower estimates as a ''come and buy me'' stokes plenty interest as more people think they will be able to have a chance and, get that bargain set.

Fellow Forum Members,
I’m trying very hard to try and figure out how my thread has been diverted to the subject of an auction. What I said, and meant, was that the prices realized on the King and Country sets at auction, any auction, should give a reasonable projection of their investment value (if that even happens to be a personal consideration). With that information, and dependent on individual circumstances, you should be able to make a knowledgeable decision whether to buy now in the hiatuses before the retroactive price increases goes into effect on the older sets.
