Presidential Movies - Lincoln by Spielberg and Teddy Roosevelt by Scorsese (1 Viewer)

You misunderstood my comment-it refers to the first Harry Potter books which were not the phenomenal success that they are today consequently would a film company/producer at that time have invested mega-bucks in a film about a young magician? Which is in reference to Brett's comment about the 150 million being invested in Tin Tin films

Reb,

I know now, what I didn't know before.

This is an old article from early 2007 but Liam Neeson briefly talks about his upcoming Lincoln role.

Reb,
I noted your interesting stats on Tin Tin (500m books sold, 58 languages).
The comparison to Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter is noted. However a major difference in my view is that the $150 million is for a animated movie in the style of Polar Express which I have never seen but was apparently a bomb and hence not likely to excite the studios. If Spielberg and Jackson that confident they could use their own money. However I prefer they spend their valuable time and talent on historical/adventure type movies.
I have not had a close look but certainly not noticed the books in the shops here (but then they would probably not be in the military/history section !).
I would have to confess to being the type that does not go to the cinema to watch cartoons (last was the Lion King with the kids).
Incidentally when I won a History Prixe at school I got to choose a book and it was The Hobbit. Loved the movies by Jackson but not a Potter fan.
Regards to all
and to the Guys in the UK enjoy the show this week end. You do realise that it is not actually Andy who is there but actually his clone !!! The real Andy has been sunning himself in the Caribeann for years (didn't you see the movie Multiplicity !?)

Have to agree with you as just recently in the movie trade papers Universal have estimated that the film would need to take $450 million at the box office to break even. If you look at other 3D motion capture movies like you stated Polar Express and I'll add Beowulf- together came no where near that figure.

Spielberg seems to think this type of creepy cartoon format has a great future in fact when he bid for the HP books his intention was to produce them in 3D MoCap but we are both singing off the same hymn sheet here as I too have serious doubts whether audiences are comfortable with his vision of the future of movies regardless of whatever stories are selected. It's a long way from Pixar!

Maybe he should give up on this venture and concentrate on the next Indiana film and call it "Indiana Jones and the Continual Quest for Profit"
