Tuesday afternoon I received WB ACW sets #31221-31224, the long awaited Confederates climbing over turnpike fence sections as they did at Gettysburg along the Emmitsburg Road at Gettysburg during Pickett's Charge and so many other times throughout the war. I must say the wait was well worth it.
Each set is well sculpted and the figures are dynamically posed and are very well painted. Frankly, I htink they are some of the best figures produced and offered to date by W. Britains. We have Ken Osen, the sculptor and researcher, to thank for this.
Besides the figures (2 to 3 depending on the set), each set comes with a fully assembled fence section (2 fence posts and 5 fence rails all joined together), one extra fence post, and five extra loose fence rails. Each assembled fence section is approximately 4.5 inches long from post to post. The individual fence post is approximately 2.5 inches high and the loose fence rails are each approximately 4.75 inches long.
The extra fence post and the five loose rail are provided as "connectors" so that the fully assembled fence section can be connected to the next fence section in order to make a turnpike fence as long as desired. There was no problem in making any of the connections I desired. When combined, the fully assembled fence section, the extra fence post, and the five extra fence rails, are approximately 9 inches long. I was able to use all four sets to create a fence line over 36" long.
In each set, the figures are used with and /or attached to the fully assembled fence section as shown in the WB stock photos below. These photos show the figures in use with the fully assembled fence section and also the extra fence post and loose rails connected to that section.
#31221 "Come on Boys" Hand of figure on the right is pinned to the top of fence post for stability. Figure on left is mounted to its own base. Casualty figure is also a stand alone and can be placed as desired.

#31222 "Up and Over" Hand of figure on the left is pinned to the top of the fence post. Right leg of casualty figure on right is pinned to the upper two fence rails.

#31223 "A Grim Harvest" Figure on right in dark blue trousers is pinned to a fence rail for balance and stabilty. The other two casualty figures are joined together and vary well balanced on their own base allowing one figure to rest on the upper fence rail.

#31224 "Passing the Colors" Hand of Color Sgt is pinned on the top of the fence post and his legs stradle the upper two fence rails. I found this figure to be the most difficult in positioning. It takes a little effort and care to stradle his legs and the flag staff over the fence rails and some slow gentle sliding of the figure towards the fence post inorer to pin his hand to the top ot it. The officer is mounted on his own base.
