What's this?? You may well ask. I had a lot of pickelhaube and peak caps leftover from past projects (contemptibles, gravelotte) and still more pkts of Scalelink.
So I selected these heads to start yet another forlorn project.

Hi Louis and John,

You are anticipating me...hmm. Loved that 13pdr. The details on scalelink are always superb.
I didnt like their British infantry as the sculpting seems a bit off though.
Their german infantry are very good, if a bit stumpy. Not suitable for teutonic Guardsmen.. (hope that wasnt a giveaway hahaha).
Surprisingly, Tamiya British WWI set is very good. They fit in very well with Scalelink.

Anyway I dug out more scalelink fig kits to add to the mix. Doesnt this hoard make you salivate....haahaha.

Hi Vittorio,

That is correct, to name the most famous countries that benefited from the Prussian Military schooling ( right after the 1870 Franco Prussian War ) are Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru to name a few.....
Interesting note is that the fashion before 1870, was for these countries to follow very closely the French Military school .....guess after the outcome of 1870....all this changed
Cheers

Hi Luis muy amigo,

Yes. It seems that French uniforms dominated prior to and after the Emperor Maximilian case and the American Civil War.
I guess Prussian military dominance then influenced most South American and European countries. However I also think that it was more costly to manufacture pickelhaubes than French kepis and France was still quite dominant in their overseas possessions. Hence the continuation of the kepi in the Foreign Legion. I do think that the British toppee pith helmets evolved from the pickelhaube.

Rgds,

Vittorio

I corralled my remaining stocks of German bodies to see if I can use them in this scene. If I keep sculpting my own bodies from putty and dont try to use them up, I will always have a hoard of gray army.....

Time to work on the main figs. I cut up and repostioned the legs on one Brit and one German fig. The germans are to be made taller as they represent Guards.....Carried on with more figs. I really enjoy converting the scalelink figs which are beautifully sculpted.
However, the central fig is a wounded German and as there was no suitable Scalelink body, Im sculpting him from scratch.

Started by cleaning up the german figs Also changed the stance of one of them by nipping at the boot to twist the foot downwards a little. Then drilled holes and pinned the backpacks to the torsos.

I also animated the hands to hold mausers. The 2nd pix selects the angle to view the two germans. Also started on the Brit fig where I relocated the right hand wire. He seems to be stabbing at a german soldier with his rifle.

WIP on the two British soldiers. These are airfix hands and rifles. The hat is a german feldgmutze which I am converting into a soft tommy cap. These kinds of conversions take a lot of time and effort to get right. I also savour handling the excellent miniatures.
