I dont know if this is the right forum for this question, but I figured it was the closest topic...!

I am looking to have some toy soldiers made (by a professional manufacturer) but dont know "who" or "how" to contact any of them. (Or which ones do things like this).

The idea never really occured to me, until I was at a show and over-heard someone saying that the soldiers he was displaying "were his own!" He apparently designed them, and then just found a manufacturer in England to make them for him.

Does anyone have experience with this? Has anyone here done this??

Thanks for any help/advice you may have!!

We are doing this type of work (according your ideas)
On our site you can see around3000 models of different levels and subject
But this is only the tip of the iceberg
For a lot of models we do not have the right to show and say "that it is our job"

Not to steal any business away from Igor, but you could also try asking at PlanetFigure and TimeLines Historica forums, whose membership includes a lot of sculptors as well as painters.

Are you looking to turn over to the artist a rough sketch or a verbal description of what you want, or are you capable of making a master figure, but need someone to mass-produce it?

Prost!

You might want to contact Ana at Honour Bound as well. Since they have their own painting studio and sculptors, they may be more flexible in doing very small runs.

All great info!! Thanks a lot for the help. This at least gives me a starting place and I can go from here.

I am not able to make my own mold or anything like that, but I am looking to make some toy soldiers of cadets that I can send photos of. So, that part shouldnt be a problem.

Thanks again to all! I will be in contact!

Here's another source, if all you need is to have a mold made:

RLJ Casting
246 Shadle Rd
Titusville, PA 16354
814-827-1862

Bob Lewis, proprietor. I've had him make molds for me, they're well made and hold up well. He also produces his own figures, heavy on the American Civil War. He's also a re-enactor, too, so he doesn't get to the shows as much as he used to. Also, no website, so you'll need to call or write, if you'd like to contact him.

Prost!

You could always just ask!:D I only jumped in here because I saw you were using one of my figures as your avatar. One of the many colledge figures I made for Jady Regard of The Little Band Man.

Well, thats exactly what I am doing here now! I am "asking!"

Glad you noticed my Avatar! Yes, that is from the Little Band Man website. I am an Aggie so obviously those are some of my favorites! If you made those, I must say, you did a great job!

As for the Aggie Cadets, I have a question that is of a different nature. Was the first time (and I guess only time) that you made these cadets for Jady Regard? There was a guy in Texas (Calvert) who use to sell very similar figures back in the late '80s/early '90s (if I remember correctly).

I didnt know if that was maybe you, or if you knew that guy as well, or if you made the soldiers for him as well. I know....random question...but either way, if you are the guy making the cadets, I figured I had to ask.

Thanks for the info!

No I've only made college figures for Jady, sorry. Jady may know, give him a ring.

Didn't Bill the Bandman make Aggie cadets, too, along with the band? Or it might have been Martin Ritchie. I'll have to go back to my archives and look for the catalogs.

Prost!

Brad,

If you could find out if there was someone else who use to make Aggie Cadets that would be great (and very helpful)!! I appreicate it...and please let me know what you find. No rush.

Did you know Jady has the fish? drill team along with the gun and full Texas A&M band?

Martin

Yes, I am fully aware of this. He has some great stuff for sale on his site (especially Aggie stuff).

However, I was not asking if someone made custom soldiers in order to find someone that could make Aggie Cadets. Well, not necessarily anyway....but now that you mention it, that would be cool if I could find someone who could make them for me personally. I would like to have my own (different than the ones that Jady sells).

I was really asking because I have a few other ideas that I wanted to look into. Right now, if I need any Aggie Cadets, I can get ahold of Jady.

On the other hand, the one thing that Jady does not have is that he does not have just plain Aggie Cadets. For example, if I wanted to put together a Battalion of Texas A&M cadets, I could not do this via Jady as he only has a few specialized figures (Ross Volunteers, Fish Drill Team, Mascot, Parsons Mounted Cavalry, etc.) and the band. I couldn't just get "cadets" and make up an outfit.

Anyway...just a thought. Thanks again for the information.

You could! He hasn't put them into production yet but I've made them. Male and female. :D

Martin

I checked Bill's website, and there's no mention of any Texas schools, so I am misremembering. However, he probably could make the band on order. His site is http://www2.cyg.net/~bandman/

I haven't checked my catalog stash for Martin Ritchie's figures, yet, so I can't say either way about his. I do recall having seen them, though, and maybe it was on eBay. Bill the Bandman does sell on eBay, too, so it may have been his work, after all. I will post back whatever I can find.

Prost!

Thanks Brad! I appreciate it!

Martin,

Wow, so you have made the cadets! That is good to know. I am sorry to hear that he has not put them into production yet.....I guess I will just have to wait! Thanks!
