Question about King & Country WS104 The Assassination of Heydrich (1 Viewer)

I have been very fortunate this week to obtain this set from a local collector here in Sydney. I love these historical vignettes and this one is great. I believe the world should know the names Jozef Gabčík and Jan Kubiš. Heroes.

I am currently reading Robert Gerwarth's biography, 'Hitler's Hangman: The Life of Heydrich' and recently finished Laurent Binet's 'HHhH' which is about Operation Anthropoid. My question follows the one posed by Binet in his novel: what colour was Heydrich's car? Is the colour of the K&C model accurate? Any experts out there who know the answer or the reasons for the K&C choice? Was the car black or green? The model's shade of green is quite light.

I am just curious and not meaning to be pedantic. It is a great set. I have done a search of the forum but cannot find information on this topic.

here at K&C UK we were very lucky to know a great man called Karl Hursker who was actually there on the day. He (as a child) was walking around the corner when the grenande went off and watched the chace and the aftermouth all in front of him. More fortunate his father and other male members of the family were working away when the towns men were rounded up and killed in reprise by Hitler.

I sat with karl one night and listened not only to this story but then how his family moved to South Africa to escape the Communists and then his eventual ending up in Canada with his family before returning to Prague. My mother and father went to stay with them a few years back and saw his huge collection of K&C. Unfortuntly Karl passed last year. His collection and a mixture of his and my dios are now in a Prague Museum. This includes a dio i made for his Heydrich set.

Great set by K&C and in my opinion one of the best sets that they have done.

The reason for my question is that Binet himself is not sure about the colour. Heydrich used numerous cars and I'm not sure that the one on display is the one from the attack or a 'modified' alternative. If the car was black, what is the reason for the K&C choice of green? Puzzling.

The car was black. the choice of colour for K&C was probably a personal decision as they felt it looked better than black. Though I know some threads about it were started as to the scale of the vehicle but, can't remember seeing any about colour.

There was a discussion of this on the forum when it was released. The car is inaccurate in many basic details including the color and I seem to recall even the license plate and model were incorrect. Artistic discretion doesn't make much sense as an excuse in this case when portraying a specific car and not a generic one.

So, the car is not representative of the real vehicle apart from having a wheel at each corner. OK. :rolleyes2:

It's a Horch, a original car from this time. The reason why the car look so small, is maybe because of it was a kind of a sportscar. The number plate is 937939 (09.1937-09.1939) because this version of the car was produced in this time area.

Authenticity of car was never proved and there was many adjustments on the car.

You will also note the horse hair seat stuffing that was the ultimate cause of Heydrichs' death. Peritonitis.
