Have any of the Russian manufacturers ever made a Scipio Africanus figure?

Best with thanks in advance for your replies,
Jason

Hi Jason,

You are very welcome.

Unfortunately this is not one that I own, but yes, I have seen it in person.

Great, I presume it is incredible so I won't waste your time asking what you think of it, LOL.

Jason,
No problem at all. I'm more than happy to help.:smile2: I love Russian figures. I think it's a very nice figure, but it's not one of my favorites. I have to be selective with these, especially the mounted ones, but someday I might add this one to my collection. I think the one on ebay is very nice, but overpriced. Aeroart recently re-introduced this piece to their collection, and you can get one from them for less, however it will be painted a level or two lower than the Russian Vityaz one on a white horse that you currently see on ebay. I've seen some from the lot Aeroart currently has, and they had some on both dark brown and light brown horses. I think the dark brown horse looked the best.

Thank you so much for the response and review. I would really want to see this one in person before purchasing it, but I trust your analysis as you really know your "Russians". In many ways I simply want it for who it depicts, on the other hand, at that price I have to really like the figure as well.

Best with thanks,
Jason

Hi Jason,
You are very welcome and thank you! :smile2:
I agree wholeheartedly about buying Russian figures in person whenever possible. It's the only way to truly know if the figure is the right one for you and worth the large sum you must part with to get it. If you go to the Chicago show I'm sure Aeroart will have at least one example of this piece on hand if not more unless it sells out before then. It's nice to hold the figure in your hands and study it from all angles. The process is especially helpful with mounted figures, because to me it's the only way I can tell if I really love the figure enough to buy it. Merely liking it a lot is just not enough. I have to love the particular figure I am considering. (Another collector shared this decision making method w/ me long ago, and it works well for me.) Plus in person you get to check it for any scratches, chips, etc.

I believe there was also at least one kit manufacturer who made a 54mm dismounted Scipio Africanus figure....I'm not sure if it was Pegaso, Andrea, or some other company. You might be able to find the kit here:

Chuck at The Red Lancers has all kinds of kit figures.

Joe:

You are so right. Figures of this grade and quality (not to mention cost) really need to be purchased in person. I also agree with you about the mounted figures. I am very particular about the colors etc of the horses themselves and as you alluded to in a previous post this figure may look better on a brown horse, but the only true way to tell is to see it up close. I am going to try to make it to Chicago this year, and if I do go I am getting there early so hopefully I can check one out before anyone else beats me to it!

Thanks for the kit info as well.

I truly appreciate your knowledge and time.

Best,
Jason

Jason,
If I can help further in any way, please let me know. I'm always happy to help and share any info I have. I agree, the only way to be 100% sure of purchases of this kind is to hold the figure in your hand. Unfortunately that's not always possible. But if you're able to make it to Chicago I'm sure you will see PB18 there, and you'll be able to determine if it clicks for you or not. Hopefully there will be a variety to consider with different color horses. When I saw the PB18 with a dark brown horse I thought it looked wonderful. Matt from Hobby Bunker had one at the Westcoaster.
I've never been to the Chicago show, although I'd love to experience it. It is my understanding that Aeroart brings more products to that show than any other by far, but I suppose that's probably true of all manufacturers and dealers too!

All the best,
Joe

Joe:

Thanks for the offer of further help. I will definitely reach out if I have any further questions. From the photos I think the dark brown horse would go best with the figure but again, I will know more when I see it in person.

On a side note, I have never been to the Chicago show either. I am hoping to make it this year.

Jason

One was shown, and ID'd in a photo in Toy soldier Collector, the article was showcasing he London show. I believe it said the vendor of the figure was Maison Militaire

Hi all!

I wonder if there is any books or other litterateur about Nevskaya Miniatures.

I think these figures are wonderful, and have collected a few of them. Hover I find little information about the Company. I found their website ( seem a little old, and no updates ) and know that one of the main artists are Tatiana Gapchenko.
But is there any books, or a list of artist signature index, like the Aeroart St.Petersburg books.

Happy for any information.

Best wishes Mattis

Hi Mattis,
There are no books on Nevskaya, sorry. A new figure was just added to the website last week, RM-11. Tatiana Gapchenko owns / runs the company. She directs a team of brilliant artists. Nevskaya never disappoints.
