RAF Bomber Command memorial (1 Viewer)

Thats great news. Thing that gets me is here is the longest, overdue, and necessary memorial to our brave pilots whose actions changed the course of WWII. the sum needed, for the memorial, was a paltry one why was this not given straight away by the lottery or the government??? It would have been the best money spent in many a year.

I cannot wait for it to open to visit pay my respects to all the crews who did not come back. My Uncle John would, and sure he is be a proud man

You have to wonder why the government didn't stump up the money as you say Mitch. Never been a fan of the Bee Gee's myself as not my type of music, but Mr Gibb has done a wonderful job here and full credit to him. Opens next summer and boy am I going to be there for the opening!

yes, he has gone up in my estimations. He has done a lot to get this memorial done. It may not have happened for his hard work and, that would be a Tragedy and you have to say that would have been a Tragedy (groan, sorry its the only song of theirs I know)

But you used it well Mitch!^&grin

So pleased this is going to happen, finally a fitting memorial to our heroes from Bomber Command who risked and gave their lives day in and day out, and not just over Germany, their work in Normandy in the run up to D Day helped cut Normandy off from German reinforcements and pound both troops and defensive positions. Heroes to a man.

Having been inside the cramped confines of one of the last two flying Lancasters last summer, I cannot tell you how impressed I am with the courage of the crews who flew mission after mission without hope of respite. This memorial is long overdue, and I hope someday to go and pay my respects at the memorial in person.

bet Bomber Harris is looking down with great pride for his ''boys''

It sad in a way that both Bomber Harris & Hugh Dowding got treated very poorly by the government of the day after all the great work they done
