Me'n'Missus Heid had a bit of a holiday earlier this year. Took one week visiting some friends in Dubai, then had almost all of 4 weeks in Thailand before I went back to work in early February.
So I thought I'd share some random snaps here with fellow forum members.

Chinatown Bangkok - must be - cos it says so.

Junk shop in Chinatown - lots of good stuff there - apart from the "Hello Kitty" rubbish.

Saturday Market in Katchanburi (closest town to the Death Railway) - more junk for sale.

So, how does Mister and Missus Heid taking their first holiday together since I took her to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, West Africa - around 6 years ago tie in with Toy Soldiers (no matter how tenuously). Well, fellow members - read on.
The story about Malabo can be revisited some other time. Its still a bit too harrowing for Madame to even bother thinking about these days. (Some of it was pretty funny though - for me at least).

I wanted a snap of that excellent poster, but some harridan insisted on getting in the way.

Missus H exhibiting delight at discovering a display of SOHK figures in a Bangkok shopping mall. Trouble was they were being sold for around three times the regular price - although I did see a set of Chinese Gates I wanted to buy.

"If Harry buys those overpriced Chinese Gates - I'll make him suffer" - I actually wanted a snap of those legs.

Bangkok shopping mall. Thai's get wonderful classical music - we get Tiffany and Debbie Gibson (showing my age now I guess).

A happy shopper.

I took Madame down to the port where we move all our equipment offshore by boat - and our personnel by helicopter. A place called Sattahip - which "Spellcheck" suggests ought to be changed to "Satanic", thus proving that Microsoft do occasionally get something right - but I digress as usual.

Here's the hotel we stayed in for a few days;

And yes, we insisted that we wanted "The Penthouse Suite", which you see here;

Great pictures Harry-it's almost like being there-Thanks for posting.

Did you buy/steal any figures/tanks whilst on vacation :D

H,
Thanks for sharing the trip...Your commentary is priceless and hilarious:)
BTW- Your Sellers' pic has prompted me to mention that if not already sequestered, you need to buy the PP collection on DVD!
Keep safe!
Mike

Great photos Harry. Thanks especially for sharing these since I spent some portion of my misspent youth in those streets and down the road at Utapao Air Base.;) It has changed but then again it seems many things have not.

Harry

Thank You for sharing your holiday ... you shown me more of Thailand then I have seen for myself, and that's just only a little north of Malaysia.

Say ... if you are ever inclined to pop down here for a a couple of days  do drop me a PM.

Will-do OD.
Won't be this year cos we're scheduled to visit Beijing again late May/early June and then again in September, plus as I've said in some other post, I want to do the Ice Sculpture Festival up in Harbin China in December - but now that Missus H has seen for herself that "Holidays outwith China are a Good Idea" - maybe Malaysia first or second quarter of next year.
I'll let you know.

Utapao is the airbase we use for getting personnel offshore by chopper. I noticed on Monday morning that they have a new display aircraft just across from the Heliport check-in building. I'll get a photo of it in around 3 weeks from now. Certain sure you'll find it interesting.

Harry

Harry,

How did you talk that lovely lady into settling down with an old codger like you?!!:p:D

Sounds good, hopefully it isn't the one we nearly crashed there; no wait, that was Hickum:eek::D

Well no, we didn't buy any Toy Soldier figures while in Thailand Reb, and I don't fancy a spell in the "Bangkok Hilton" too much, so we didn't steal any either.
But we did obtain some brilliant accessories for our displays.
Here's just some of the examples we bought in the Chinatown district of Bangkok;

Here are a few more snaps of that SOHK display in the Bangkok shopping mall. The overseas Chinese tourists (Singaporean, Malaysian, Thai, Hong Kong, Canadian and American Ethnic Chinese I mean) were going simply Ga-Ga over it. I didn’t have the heart to inform them the prices advertised in the display were 3 times the catalogue prices.

Harry,

How did you talk that lovely lady into settling down with an old codger like you?!!

I beg your pardon...??? What’s with this “Old Codger” stuff then Louis…??? – By Jove...???
Explain please, or I’ll have my seconds call around at your lodgings in the morning, B’Gad…!!!
Pistols, Sabers, Baseball Bats or Catapults – I'll leave the choice of weapons to you and your nominated seconds.

I’m guessing you're referring to the Lady in the following photos. To tell the truth, it’s an ongoing complete and absolute mystery why she continues to put up with yours truly.
Must be because I happen to possess such an overdeveloped – personality.
But the real kicker is – she loves collecting painted metal miniature figurines as well….!!!!
Check the photos on the East of India Section in the “Thanks Ken-Part2” thread.
There’s two miniature figurine manufacturers (and their wives) have met her – and know she collects figures with an Asian theme.

Some of these snaps here aren’t too good cos I just scanned them straight out of some magazines. I remember way back when I first joined this forum I happened to mention that Missus Heid used to do some part-time modeling. An off-the-cuff remark that was received with a degree of disbelief, and certainly uncalled for sarcasm, by someone who might as well remain nameless. She doesn’t do it anymore of course, cos she’s pretty much an old codger herself these days.
But then again, some of these snaps are straight out of magazine photo-shoots from not-really-all-that-long-ago.

Best Regards
Harry

I don't recall if I was the nameless person that said some sarcastic things about Missus Heid. However I do admit to having a somewhat sarcastic nature, and a unreliable memory, so I do apologize to Missus Heid and Harry if I was indeed the offender.

Oz,
The people who own this forum put you on my "ignore list", but of course I can read your posts - along with anyone else who's on my "ignore list" for that matter.
As I mentioned in my reply to your PM earlier today, real life is so much more important than what goes on in these forums.
I just want to primarily post photo's of our collection, and other snaps that might interest other collectors - such as our recent social activities with a couple of TS manufacturers & their wifes, and I also want to join in with some of the more interesting miniature figurine discussions.
That's all - nothing more - nothing less.

May I please suggest that you and I shake hands via cyber-space, let bygones be bygones - and forget about it.

Regards
Harry

Harry,
I have certainly learned the hard way that real life is more important than forums and I regret not spending more time with my wife when I had the chance. To often we take things for granted, but as you have intimated it serves no purpose to dwell on the past, so I am happy to shake your extended hand via cyber-space.

Regards
Matt

Harry, with the monicker Heid, I expected you would just "put the heid on me" if I offended you . . . :D Seriously my friend, as one old codger to another, it was meant as a compliment to your lovely lady more than a knock on your, uh, overdevelopments . . .:D:p;)

There's not too many people know where that monicker comes from Louis.
You have to be very aware of Scottish slang/humour before you "get" the full meaning of the joke - and you are obviously familiar with it.
:):);)
To those not in the know - it's pronounced "Heed" not "Hide" - and I've had the nickname since my late-teens when I was a kind of "Hippy-Biker" with a heid of hair down past the shoulders and a full beard hiding my debonair features.
Reference the ancient photo below, which must've been taken after one of my occasional haircuts - and a shave.:eek:

Cheers
Harry

Nice boots Harry! I am glad you are back from exile. Looking forward to more insanity.

Thanks for taking my picture. I wasn't sure if you saw me.
