Rare Items Popping Up? (2 Viewers)

I surely don't want to cause our supurb host any trouble, it's just that one has always stuck in my craw.
My Apoliges to the host, It's just generally I don't contribute unless I have a strong feeling.

 Shannon and Brad - the current eBay thread will do fine, I guess I overlooked that thread because I usually go straight to the "New Posts" link.

As we speak several nice retired pieces have appeared on E-bay from a new seller with a Zero feedback rating. This has in the past been a cause
for concern some may recall the Vietnam Firebase that appeared (Using the same photos) from the one Louis purchased.

I think this series is OK, it has original pictures, and the seller is using Paypal which offers "Limited Protection"

So ask questions, and be sure, but it looks like some nice items could possibly soon be added to someones collection.

Solid advice from a K&C / TREEFROG Forum Veteran! Thanks for the eBay SITREP!

Wow - Thanks Njja

I didnt even think about fraud when I saw those - good to keep us on our toes and be careful.

Us young flyers do need to be careful ! oh no - I am starting to sound like Beaufighter.......its the fever I tell you - the fever. :D

For what it is worth, John's initial post had nothing to do with good or bad dealers. What was lost in the avalanche of posts thereafter, was the rhetorical question being asked about the sudden influx of rare pieces. Was it being implied that these items were being held in a backroom all these years by dealers, who never put them out? Or are these items fictitious and the auctions fake? Call me dense, but the original post had some original meaning and I don't get it.........Michael

Michael:

I was suprised when fairly rare items appeared back to back from a dealer
from a time period not usually represented by his other offerings.

That is what sparked my initial concern. Many dealers have pulled items out
of their stockrooms, or from a lost stash, usually with a "Guys look what I just found" or something. And I never recall two early items appearing back to back......and I've been watching King & Country on E-bay for 3+ years
back when a search of King & Country returned Nothing.

That is what made me wonder where these items came from...... then we moved on to dealer concerns and other problems. I am just interested in providing other Forum members a heads up as I did with the new listings from Canada. Just some food for thought, ask a couple of questions, is Paypal involved or do they want a wire Transfer or Cashiers Check.

An educated consumer is often a happy consumer.

John,

Within your post you said that three years ago a search would reveal nothing for King and Country. I've only been doing this (ebay searches that is) since probably December 2004.

During that time you must have picked up some good deals when there was very little K & C on ebay.

Brad:

Its interesting, there was hardly anything ever for sale. And if something ever did show up there was no way to know what it was....or when it was made. I can't remember ever seeing anything except several aircraft.......when did King & Country ever make those?? And a few other items. It wasn't until I joined Treefrog spoke to Louis, found Bill Sager's great site that I had any idea the volume of items that carried the King & Country
Logo.

The first site I ever found that carried the product long before the Forum was Treefrog, and one other site in its infancy.....and of course my dealer was Classic Toys. I used to go up there twice a year and after 2 or 3 years I had bought all the items I couldn't live without.....so I began grabbing everything else.

So don't feel like you missed anything.......we probably wouldn't have known it at the time.

John,

As the saying goes ignorance is bliss. I first started collecting in probably the fall of 2004 and never thought to look on ebay. By the time I did, I had managed to get a WS 13 Hanomag from my local dealer who taught me everything I then knew. So, of course, I decided to check ebay for King and Country and one day I see a listing for a Hanomag painted white and a Panther (which I didn't have in any variety) painted white. Being the smart one, I said to myself (and this is before I discovered Bill's site), "oh the seller must have painted it white" and passed on it. I later mention it to my dealer, who explains the K & C facts of life to me and I hurry back to the computer but it's too late the auction has ended for the "expensive" price of $150 or something like that. Live and learn. The mistakes of a rookie :)

Brad:

I gave it some thought, and here are the two items I remember. There was
a Hugh Walled Fortress with just a ton of soldiers and a couple of Elephants,
Cannon and a large number of mixed figures. It was the Walled Display from
Silk Road and a load of the glossy figures. I looked at it for a couple of days
and passed and I think it went for a little over a thousand.

The other item I remember was a great looking early Fort Roman Style from
a seller in the UK. I watched this one and tried to figure out what the heck it was......it finally sold for $250 long before I figured out it was the early Roman
Fort.

Thats why knowledge is King! And lots of the newer collectors can have a lot of fun using the knowledge now available to get up to speed!!

That is why Hans, Larry and I decided to write the book. It covers everything K&C from 1984 to the present, with photos of all but maybe 5-6 figures Andy ever produced (and descriptions of those missing 5-6 figures) as well as photos of every single vehicle in every paint scheme except two (the missing paint schemes being the RAF ambulance in desert markings and the wood Sherman with opening hatches in U.S. Army markings). The only area where the book can't be truly comprehensive is with the aircraft - we can provide photos of maybe 60-70 out of more than 117 we have counted to date. It should, hopefully, permit newer K&C collectors to have a comprehensive knowledge of the products K&C has developed and produced over the years. Now if Hans and Larry would start doing the photography and formatting, we might get it published before Alex starts high school.

Wow! I understand why it is one of the two items that you remind. That display is simply incredible.

Oh, come on, we don't want to make it easy for them. They have to go through the same rites of passage that we all did ;)

Pierre:

You would really have enjoyed that, I wish I still had the auction photos, but I lost them when my computer crashed. I watched it, I believe it was at $1200, of course it was not listed as King & Country.....I believe it was Military Miniature Collection or something similar. I do not collect the Glossy figures so I was only interested in the Massive Walled Structure! And the Elephants were pretty cool. Before I knew it the auction was over and it was
off to someones collection.

But not to worry there is always something else great waiting to be discovered.

I learned a long time ago the discovery of a new treasure usually brings me more pleasure then the possession of it.

Many years ago I spent quite a few years trying to find a Lionel Standard Gauge Blue Comet.....a Very Rare and Unique Piece. When I finally found one,
I had it on my mantle about a month, when the phone rang one winter evening. I drove out in the snow and came back with a second one from a home about four blocks from my own.

You really just never know what you might stumble across tomorrow! Thats at least half the fun!!

That is true.

I was very excited when I finally won a WS41 on eBay. I displayed it on the pontoon with a Krupp truck and the German cavalry (and other figures from the Wehrmatch). A nice set up. And one day I putted everything back in their boxes and on another day, I sold the tank and the truck.

But I don't think that I'd do that with that display:)

Well good for you! Remember maybe tomorrow that Silk Road Fortress will
show up again....and wind up on your desk!

I never know what I'm going to be seeking out! I've got my selection of
Nabisco Spoonmen, Mint Framed Wonder Warthog Issues 1 & 2, oh yeah now
I'm trying to corner the worlds supply of King & Country M113's!!

Who knows!
