Really bad military scenes in films (3 Viewers)

Why Rob, have you never seen the desert of the Ardennes? It adjoins the arid land of Flanders.^&grin -- Al

I liked a lot of REVOLUTION, especially the reeditted version, but they had the seige of Yorktown happening on the "Fjords" of Virginia.
The Blue and The Gray miniseries had 1st Bull Run with the leaves turning.

How about John Wayne playing Genghis Khan in "The Conquerors"........I'm dat
Ping myself.
Errol Flynn as Custer in "They Died With Their Boots On" was also devoid of any historical accuracy.

They had the planes from the film Blue max at Booker museaum till it closed

Apparently there were a number of really excellent replicas made for WW1 aerial movies at the same time - Aces High might also have been one - and for a period in the early seventies there were a few flying. However any museum with money purchased one and then promptly grounded it. Now there are plenty - the airshow in NZ held every second year seems to have 6 or 7 Fokker Triplanes in the air at any given time with I have seen a 7/8ths version of a Nieuport just outside Brisbane and a Fokker triplane at Oakey. I even have a faint memory of plans available that allowed a skilled mechanic to build an Se5A for 30 000 but I may have just dreamt it!

It's hairstyles for me. One of the crew members on The Bounty (1984) had a distinctly 80's mullet. {eek3} Looked ridiculous. Also 60's haircuts in movies set in the 1940's like Kelly's Heroe's. {sm4} How about Patrick Swayze's hairstyle in North and South???? :D

unfortunatly a good deal of the dialog in red tails,,very 1940s ,,"germans ,get em" "americans ,show no mercy "an occasional "***" would have been ok,,and as stated by my dad ,the group and squadron lead radio operator,,in the past the radio discipline of most war films ,,twelve oclock high a slight exception,,was =is atrocious,,tho amusingly he often said as soon as the 15th af groups left the italian coast headed north ,,the german flak and fighter nets lit up,,with their female controllers calling out altitudes co ordinates ,,all the way inbound to the target of the day,,11 seconds for volley radar fired 88s, 105s to reach 30 k altitude,,glad you made it tsgt joe sr,

Although Kelly's Heroes is not really a war movie - more of a heist movie in the vein of Ocean's 11 - it is a really entertaing film. The highlight is Donald Sutherland's 1960s style hippie. When he said to Don Rickles "To a New Yorker like you a hero is some kind of weird sandwich, not someone who takes on three Tigers" he deserved an Oscar!

I can't think of anything awful i've ever seen on the silver screen. I do love the over acted way people get shot. Sometimes they just stop walking and yell ''aaaaahhh!''. Other times they fly back like they've been hit by an RPG, despite the fact it was a bullet! Zulu, Waterloo, A Bridge Too far, all examples of bad deaths. In ''Saving Private Ryan'' whilst its a great film to watch, the ''Tiger'' tank at the end was less than convincing. I bet 99% of people didn't notice{sm3}

But remember when JFK was hit from the" back "he flew violently to the back on film..the laws of physics suspended for that one shot.

Great film. "We'll make him a 'deal' deal." -- Crapgame. It is an inspired film. Even the gravediggers agree.:wink2: -- Al

I really like Kelly's Heroes. You can see the 1940s "French" peasants are Yugoslavians in their own 1960s clothing and hairstyles. That's OK as it's a fun film not pretending to be anything else.

Crapgame: Then make a DEAL!
Big Joe: What kind of deal?
Crapgame: A DEAL, deal! Maybe the guy's a Republican. "Business is business," right?

Thank for that mate

Really glad other people love this film - it was one of those films that have, for whatever reason, a place in childhood memory. All those wonderful lines come rolling back - "There you go again Moriarity with them negative waves. Why can't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change'?

To show I have a softer side - I love the theme song 'Burning Bridges' almost as much as the movie.

Hey! Another fan. I've actually got that track listed in my will as the music I want played at my funeral. Hopefully a couple of years off yet!

If you can give me some warning I'll attend.

German Tiger commander - "You...the American Army."
Oddball - "No baby, we ain't."

Many thanks. There'll be some nice canopes and other finger nibbles laid on, and humming to the song will be encouraged. I'll do my best to give you plenty of notic....Uuuuuggghhhh!.............
