Did any of you guys snag anything?

I was watching some of those items for price documentation purposes and, by and large, they seemed to go for pretty healthy prices.

HS#2, for example, went for a final bid of $800US, with a buyer's premium bringing the total to nearly a grand.

Set #11 (and only the second one I have seen) went for $200US before 22% premium.

Here's hoping some of you fellas filled some holes in your collections, if that is what any of you are about. There were quite a few early and "out of print" sets in that lot.

Cheers,
D

Is there anywhere to see the results of this auction? I'd like to see what some of those sets went for.

I do not know. Most of the Imperial stuff I had on ebay I lost money on. So who knows. I just wanted to break even and got creamed.

If you want to have a look at the completed auctions on ebay
just click on the small "advanced search" line next too the main
search box .
Then it allows you to tick a box to show completed listings of whatever
your search is for i.e imperial [in toy soldier category].

I took home a long lost set of Imperial Zulus, I have been trying to get for several years now...

I looked and looked under the completed listings and can't find any of those auctions. What happened?

I had found them all listed somewhere on ebay, but I can't seem to find it anymore.
They may have removed the data from ebay or maybe I am just being forgetful.

Anyway, there were a few "deals" but when you factor in the 22% buyer's premium, some of the more rare sets went pretty high;

For example; HS2 went for about $1000 (with buyer's premium) and Gilbert Mair's set 11 (not NZ11, mind you) went for $250-ish.

Most of the rest of the six figure sets went for around $150-180 (without premium) and a single mounted figure (Lord Roberts) went for $200!

I wish I had saved that page when I found it the first time, but I did take scant notes of the results for some of the less common sets. PM or email me if you have any specific questions.

Cheers,
D

I may not have been looking at the same sets as the rest of you; I saw some dealers selling civilians, that were reasonably priced ($20-$30 for pairs) but I didn't bid on them. They make good background figures for parades.

Prost!

Yes, the Town and Around series of figures from Imperial have never been discontinued and are, in fact, still available from Imperial or more locally, at London Bridge toys.

Some of the sets that were a part of this larger auction have not been in production for almost twenty years.

I forgot to add that most of the single mounted figures that were earlier releases went for around $70 before premium.

Yes, give a shout out to our friend Ron Ruddell. If any of you ever find yourselves here in the Lehigh Valley, be sure to stop in at London Bridge in Emmaus.

Then go to Yocco's for the world's best chili dogs (well, Willie Joe's are pretty good, too)

Prosit!
Brad

Pete's Hot Dogs (on the "South side") are far better than Yoccos, imho. Even better are Jimmy's Dogs in Easton.

As it happens, I am a very well-eaten Lehigh Valley Hot Dog expert.

:)

Must respectfully disagree, Yocco's, Willie Joe's and Marco's (that was Joe "Yocco" Iaccocca's brother, Marco) are all better than anything on this side of the Lehigh. The best Bethlehem has are perhaps Pott's. Pete's are OK, but you've got to watch your back when you go.

Traub's down in Emmaus are OK, too, but there, the real treat is the roll, they use some kind of steak roll, instead of a hot dog bun.

For those of you not from here, we're talking about dogs that have chili sauce, not some kind of Hormel-out-of-a-can, glooped on stuff that the rest of the country eats. Yech! Seems to be a Pennsylvania thing, it's chili sauce.

Drum, do you roll your eyes when you're in any of our hot dog places, and you hear some out-of-town chucklehead order a dog with no sauce? I always ask myself, "Why did you even come in here?"

And remember Lustig's, from Reading? Really great dogs, as are Berk's, too.

OK, I'm running out right now to get some, prosit!

Some interesting Imperial sets on Ebay right now (not mine), the Marines in Tripoli and an Heirloom Series set. I'm kicking myself for not snapping up those Marines when I saw them at a pretty cheap cost at Burlington Antique Toys in NYC last Nov. I actually pointed them out to someone else in the store who then promptly purchased them. Oh well.

Oh ow! That has got to hurt! I hope actually it was a friend?

Their seems to be a few coming through at the moment , A few civil war
sets which is good to see . [I picked up a couple but the officer arrived
with his pistol bent back on itself which was pretty disapointing]
My biggest worry buying Imperial on ebay is due to the nature of their packaging which is not ideal for repacking , the seller packs them in thier
boxes properly.

I know what you mean. I bubble wrap them and then pack them into their box. Then wrap the box so it does not come apart. Then pack the box into a bigger box so it does not move! This usually works well. No complaints so far!
On the other hand it is good for my repainting business:eek:

A quick update on the closing of some of these auctions #28025324315 Coldstream Guards Colour Party $147.50,380052886646 Marines at Tripoli $435.01 and 380053158595 Heirloom Set,The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders $975.00.o.

Wow! That Heritage Series 2 set went pretty high!

Not that $1000 is not an appropriate price for such a fine set, but I am still surprised in light of the economy. This one went for the highest price that I have seen.

The original price for HS 2 was over $600 and they sure aren't making any more of these in NZ. Finally, for those who did not know already, the fine wood box in which these sets were packaged are handmade from native New Zealand hardwoods.

The Tripoli set is just plain rare.

Thanks for bringing the prices forward, OB.
