Redcoats Displays (1 Viewer)

The two Guns in action are from JJD "Bagun-01", one Gunner Team is from "Tradition of London" (also the British firing line, facing the French).

The Tradition kits are really good ones, too. Nicely sculpted and crisply cast, and they paint up well.

Prost!

I really love these ranges, I hope the plug can be retrieved and we can get more of these, especially more Americans and maybe even other nationalities. I have a couple sizable displays of them at this point, including a large American 1812 formation with the new bands and a timeline of American soldiers with matching women from the Petticoats series.

I've always hoped that they'd add more cavalry, especially from the Seven Years War. A British dragoon, light dragoon (like the 15th LD), and Horse Guard would be nice, and a French heavy, a dragoon, and a hussar. There are figures from other brands for those subjects, but it would be nice to have them from the same hand as the rest of the series.

Prost!

Very very true, not to speak about those wonderful and colourful militia and free corps formation.

Well, I only know Tradition; 65 euros per rider (sets with three riders), not exactly cheap – especially since I don't know the exact scale of the riders (Tradition jumps around a bit wildly, sometimes 52mm, then 54mm, even 56mm is not uncommon; the "Imperial Germany" General/Staff is 58mm...)
Who knows the exact size of TRADITION-Bestell-Nr.: 808/SET/657 / 6. Inniskilling Dragoons?808_SET_657.jpg

I always liked the Tradition figurines albeit the constant shifting of scale within their ranges.
The prices are a bit steep but at least they offer unpainted castings as well. Yet Brexit does help to make ordering "from the continent" even more unattractive. Marching back 150 years "Buy German Bananas".

I always liked the Tradition figurines...
Yes, when they first offered their Seven Years War kits, it was a real bonus. There weren't any other such figures on the market at the time. You had to track down Rose kits or old Staddens.

The British and French infantry are nicely sculpted and cast, with crisp detail. And the British dragoon figures were a welcome addition, too. I've been gradually adding the British troops as the 20th foot for a Minden display.

Now if they would just add some more cavalry kits...

Prost!

I really enjoyed sculpting these and the bulk of what I have displayed at home are the Redcoats…with about 25 “Hat Men” too. I always hoped to offer more but the plug was pretty much pulled when First Gear still owned the brand, so the few new ones have only been offered as Collectors Club figures in recent times. I am building a nice display of 1790s Guards at the moment!
That was a pitty...I really enjoyed the series and did focus on the 1st Foot, but when the series dried up I could not get additional sets nore did new poses for that Regiment in specific came out...I was wanting some in firing as the ones made for the French Marines ...but they never came....
Would that be a consideration for the future? Focus back into the Indian/7 Years war or Civil War and the Great Wars is where the money is so the colonial wars are a gonner.....?
Cheers

Can’t beat glossy redcoats and those pesky French certainly won’t 😊

A glorious display.

The late 18th century cavalry are some of the very best mounted glossies that Britain’s have produced. Absolutely superb.

In reply to the mention of old Rose kits and Staddens John Eden cast me rather a lot of the Rose 7YW infantry and cavalry to order a few years ago. He could not have been more helpful and even cast some flat bases for the cavalry to match the infantry bases. The Rose figures are superb sculpts and easy to paint although not as rotund as Tradition but they do fit well as they do with Britains items for that period.

I have to admit that most of the castings he supplied are still in Leadpile Barracks.

I know he no longer does the painted sets that he used to sell and I am unaware as to whether or not John still casts to order?

Tommy Atkins castings in the Culloden range (suitable for 7YW) are still available from Fusilier at £4.40 for an infantry figure (last time I looked) which compares very favourably with the (pretty astronomic) price being asked for Tradition castings - especially when you can buy painted boxed sets from time to time on the dreaded eBay for less per head than a new casting.

Hi, Mal! John sold the Rose catalog molds that he had. He cut back on the amount of time he spends casting, to spend it on another hobby he has, photography.
Besides Rose Models, he also had a good number of molds from Rylit's Seven Years War catalog. If you ever saw the group of Prussian soldiers around a campfire, for example, or around a table, those are all from the former Rylit in Germany.
As far as I know, he sells just through his Facebook page, "ROSE Miniatures".

Prost!
Brad

A PS-as far as Tradition's prices for its castings go, the Model Soldier foot figures are ₤12.97 on Tradition's website, or $17.69. The foot figured in the Toy Soldiers range, such as the SYW British and French infantry, are ₤11.25, or about $15.35. That's not too bad; Imrie-Risley sells its foot figures for $17 even. And you can find Tradition figure kits from secondary sources for less, too. So, it's about in line with current prices.

Many thanks Brad. I dont suppose you know where the Rose moulds went?
I only heard that it was a buyer in the UK. John himself declined to say, out of discretion for the buyer. I've been watching to see if Rose castings appear on the market, but nothing yet. I'd really like to see the SYW Prussians, and the German cavalry become available again.

Prost!
Brad
