What classic films need to be remade because they are just so darn good!:D

Zulu
The Longest Day
Patton
John Wayne's The Alamo

Vick,
Sorry, these are perfection as is. Maybe a redo with 5.1 sound remake for effects... Who are you going to get to play the Duke, Michael Caine, Stanley Baker, etc... Matt Damon and and Vin Diesel? Mike

IMHO, you should only remake films that can be made better (or different but at least as good) than the original. I am also not sure those should be remade; restored to pristine purity and rendered on blue ray is what I hope for.;)

I have both versions of All Quiet on the Western Front (1930 & 1979) and like both.

I also have both versions of The Four Feathers (1939 & 2002).
The remake is sensational!

They have already remade The Alamo (1960 & 2004) but it wasn't much chop. http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/778471

I would love to see a remake of Waterloo

Hi Folks Im not sure it would be a good idea to remake a classic ZULU but the follow up ZULU DAWN was crap in comparison, so I think a remake of this would be spectacular especially the attack by the Zulus on the 1/24th and no 3 columns camp at Isandhlawna
Regards John

The Charge of the Light Brigade, not the Errol Flynn version. That should be reclassified as fantasy for the way it distorted history, the Tony Richardson effort but with the correct uniforms and all the bits that ended on the cutting room floor i.e. the charge of the Heavy brigade and the Thin Red Streak.

I actually enjoyed this one but agree it was bothersome to see the universal red trousers. I would love to see a freshly done Crimean War pic on a grand scale.

Hollywood seems to have little real creativity left. They are reduced to making movies from old TV shows (that weren't that good to begin with) or redoing movies that stand as classics. We are about to be treated to a major remake of "The Day The Earth Stood Still". This is a sci-fi classic that was just GREAT the first time. The message still stands appropriate for current times.

What's next? "To Kill a Mocking Bird"? "On the Beach"?

I wish that I had the cash that somebody conned out of investors to do "Speed Racer"!

For war movies there are many more stories to be told. With current CGI the air war and sea war become much more viable as the setting for stories from many eras.

Gary

With CGI I'd like to see "Ironclads" remade but with a better backstory. The Turner TV film had reenactor extras wearing better uniforms and clothing than the principle actors.

I'm with on movies made from TV shows, especially live-action movies based on animated shows. Personally, as an animation fan, I don't want to see a live-action "Flintstones", for example. Give me a new animated movie, if it must be remade at all.

Prost!

Yes I agree on the above. Waterloo meets my remake criteria since the acting, direction and technical quality certainly could be improved. I am not sure if it could return the production cost though.

I have not seen the second "All Quiet...". I will look for that one.

It was made by Hallmark for their Hall of Fame TV series, with Richard Thomas as Paul and Ernest Borgnine as Kat. I only ever saw it when it aired back then, but I remember that I enjoyed it. In some ways, it was closer to the novel than the original version, although that one was very good, too.

Prost!

Hmmmm, Richard Thomas eh. I will need to be prepared to drink heavily to watch it then since his acting makes me cringe.:D

You know one day these films need to be remade as kids have no idea of what classics are:rolleyes: And that I am done as I dont have much feeling in my chin from surgery today.:mad::(

Vick,
You may indeed be on to something. To most kids, classics are anything 5 years old or more. Maybe more markeeting dollars into rereleases with better sound/picture.
Did they tell you to take any ibuprofen for the pain? Try five every 4 hrs..worked for me when I had all four wisdom teeth removed with power tools. Now I have no wisdom. Mike

I think you might have some wisdom because that is what I had done today and I feel like Heath Ledgers the joker stuck a knife in my mouth and cut my gums. I am so glad I was not a sailor in the 1600's-1800's. It really gives the feeling of being shell shocked, to give the actors the appearance of being shell shocked in films, I suggest they take the laughing gas and meds after the gas. I am taking asprin every hour and I really want some meat and I am stuck eating jello.:D I would also say the Fall of the Roman Empire and Ben Hur!
