We are extremely pleased to present the latest additions to our Renaissance figure range. Sets REN021-REN029 add a wonderful Landsknecht Artillery Set as well as two more German Landsknecht Arquebusiers. Centered around a monster metal cannon with accessories, the Artillery set includes a noble command figure as well as 5 different gunners each one as strikingly detailed and painted as the next. We’ve done these figures such that they can be used for either the French Army or the Imperial army as the Landsknechts were Europe’s mercenaries at the time and served whoever paid their wages! The German Landsknecht Arquebusiers are additions to our previous German Landsknecht Pike Block under Georg Von Frundsberg adding further ranks to the figures already released. This range has been extremely fun for us to produce in that it’s very different than what we normally make and we’re pleased to say that it has been extremely well received by our customers. We believe it’s one of those ranges that show our skills at figure making possibly better than any other as the sculpting and paint work is detailed to say the least!

This is my favorite series and I am excited about the additions.
The combination of pikes, muskets, swords, artillery and armored cavalry in a wide variety of colorful costumes makes fantastic dioramas.
I am happy that this series is popular and look forward to more additions (French, Spanish, Ottoman Empire, Conquistadores and Aztecs).

This is the highlight of today's announcements for me. I cannot wait to see one in the flesh.

Just amazing stuff! I feel thoroughly steamrolled by FL today, and I'm loving it! How I wish I could collect more of their ranges. This Landsknecht arty set is brilliant. The individual figure poses w/ each performing his own role....it's just so very well designed and executed.

Beautiful releases.
I'm in for these :wink2:
Just about done with getting the first 20 figures in this line, with the last one expected next week.
So, a perfect timing for releasing these new sets ^&grin

Excellent stuff from First Legion. They are covering the Renaissance like no one else! I don't know much about the period, but I do know these figures look great.

I am getting closer to completing my Renaissance artillery set. Unfortunately (possibly insufficient research), I could not find a good description for the positioning of the figures around the canon or a description of the function and location of the items of the accessory set. Any help would be appreciated.

Is there a story on how the Landsknecht's came to adopt such colorful uniforms?

WWII news please???

Probably not on this thread. :)

I think the colors of the Landsknecht's clothes and the style of slashing fabric was a fashion at the time supported by the fact that part of the Landsknechts’ pay was picking spoils after the battle and the recycling of clothes was an accepted practice. Further, nobility was in favor of uniforms in order to distinguish social and military ranks and hence the refusal to be "uniform" is often interpreted as a message of egality.

For more details on the clothing, I liked:
