First, I would like to thank Rick Wang of Figarti Minatures, Mike and Myszka Hall of Sierra Toy Soldier and Matt Murphy of Hobby Bunker for sponsoring the "Meeting with Figarti."
During the first part of the meeting, Rick talked about a number of items launched at the Chicago Show and now seen for the first time at the West Coaster:
V2: V2 refueling truck based on Open Blitz truck frame now available ... Figarti will be adding additional sets to this line.
V1: additional launch ramp extension with 4 figures now available ... original V1 with launch ramp sold out long time ago.
Rick talked about the features and details of the Monty Grant, M3 Lee, DAK Panzer IV, and K5 and mentioned that Figarti used a lot of photo etching details on its vehicles.
Continuing to improve its figures as can be seen by the Lost in the Desert set of U.S. troops in North Africia.
Hobby Bunker's major announcement of Wake Island figures with poses suggested by Matt Murphy. Matt had stock in 1 set of three figures showing U.S. Marines in the early WWII uniforms with the WWI helmets running forward. Each figure has a distinctive face and is some of the best work that Figarti has done (imho ) Another set will be arriving at Hobby Bunker in the next few weeks with about 8 more sets coming. Each figure is individually numbered with a total production of 70 sets. The item number and production date is also laser etched on base.
For those collectors who like the 1/32 scale stuff, Rick showed the Iraqi Insurgent set and the two Viet Cong sets that were previously pictured on Figarti's website.
Figarti will be producing the Storch. The production planes that were to be shown at the Meeting had not arrived at the hotel at the time of the meeting. At the Chicago Show, Figarti mentioned a price of $350 to $400 but given the global economic problems, spent the next few months trying to lower the production costs. As a result, the Rommel Storch with a single pilot figure (which Beaufighter will attest is a great figure) will be $289.
The gift figure turned out to be a Rommel figure. The box states it is a limited edition of 120 figures and Rick mentioned that it would also be the gift figure for the Chicago Show. It will not be sold separately like last year's gift figure.
Rick then said that his father, James Wang, the founder of Figarti, has always wanted to go in a non-military direction and wanted "pretty items." He has been going to the factory three days a week working on some ideas that have always interested him. Rick then introduced a Bejing Opera line that had a fantastic opera stage, Chinese musicians on another raised platform and Chinese opera singers with different props and backgrounds based on specific Chinese operas. Scale is 1/32. Rick mentioned this would be for the Chinese domestic market but I think collectors who like SOHK will want this line.
In addition, Rick introduced an amazing 1/32 reproduction of the Da Vinci's Last Supper with a background with the same prospective as the real painting. This is also 1/32 scale.
Finally, Rick hinted that at the Chicago Show Figarti would be launching a very exciting project codenamed "MP3."
Carlos will be posting pictures early next week.
