Restoration figures. (1 Viewer)

This time it's REALLY Duke of Cumberland ....

Thanks go to Brad, who sent me a spare figure that he obtained on EBay, which was very badly painted as an Austrian Cuirassier General.

Firstly I had to remove the paint ...

Next undercoat with white spray ...

Starting 'a lick of paint' ...

And finished, back to his former Glory .. Prince William Augustus, the third and youngest son of George II

Thanks Brad for your direction and for the figure, he's now in command again.

John, you're very welcome! And you've done another excellent restoration, Cumberland looks great!

I think this figure is the best of Stadden's personality figures, in that he looks the most like his subject, compared to the other personalities Stadden had in this catalog.

Now we need to get you some officers to go with him ;)

Prost!

Obee has done such a great work on the restoration of these figures that I need to post a great thank you...too bad I did not keep Pictures of them before and only have pictures of the after...All I can say is that they were over 40 years old and John did miracles...
Cheers

Here is one pic of the marching soldiers, a couple had bases broken off, and arms off.

Luiz mate,
Excellent range of restorations. They look really nice. I am not a glossy collector but these are great.:smile2:

Obee mate,
Outstanding job as per usual. Your talents never cease to amaze me. I will soon have a shipment of repairs heading your way.^&grin

Cheers Howard

What manufacturer are these three John?

Scott

I don't know ???

Maybe someone can enlighten us, but when I stripped them I saw that they had separate arms, and the ones in shirtsleeves ad a separate rifle.

The bases were plain, and not drilled, and the feet were not plugged, just glued onto the base.

Now that have been repined for strength to survive the rigors of the Trans Pacific journey to Brazil :)

Here we go again, with 3 more restorations:

Victor,

I've still got another 10 - 20 figures still to go, so its a great feeling to bringing them back to their former glory.

I know exactly what you mean - and how you feel once they have been restored to their former glory ( or sometimes even better). Lovely job on these John.

They can often be more reasonable than castings too - especially when the odd breakage is found - so a win/win situation. jb

Yes, it seems that some collectors won't touch them because they are chipped, badly painted or broken, but when you have the foresight to be able to see what's underneath, and the skills to be able to repair, repaint and restore, thay are a true 'gem' :)

I'm always on the lookout .....

I think I have competed with John for old figures:D

I agree with you both, it is a very economical way of building up a unique collection.

Have been doing this for about 25 yrs now, thus enabling me to represent figures that toy soldier manufacturers forgot.
