Intro
On a hot sunny Tunisian day, a pair of DAK infantry make their way to a small desert village shop house. Bullets from British Eighth Infantry ricochet off the adobe walls. Hans loads his rifle while the Sergeant aims his Schmeisser as part of their attack. Will they be able to defend the makeshift fort or will Monty's troops force a surrender...
Let's explore King and Country (K&C) AK057 Attack Group, a two-soldier Afrika Korps set released in 2009, since retired.
Rating
Assembly/Components: N/A - As this is a figure/soldier set without any attached/detachable pieces, this measure is a N/A.
Color Scheme: 5/5 - K&C stays true and consistent with their Afrika Korps color scheme with light desert-faded green field jackets and tan shorts on both figures.
Design/Mold: 5/5 - Beautiful molds for both figures. While I always enjoy seeing kneeling figures, the figure with Schmeisser in attack/firing pose stands out for me. This duo makes a perfect set to add to a front-line attack scene. Both stand well balanced on their bases.
Paint Quality: 5/5 - Well painted and better painted compared to some of my DAK figures included with vehicles. These figures are some of my favorite, although my K&C collection is a modest one.
Decals: N/A
Details: 5/5 - Afrika Korps arm bands, painted shovels and gas masks, and even small bits of silver for buckles add to the wonderful details of this duo. I especially like the German shield emblem on the kneeling figure's helmet (pictured above).
Figures: N/A as this is a figure set.
Playability: 5/5 - Tough one here but with these poses, they offer a lot of opportunity to be placed in various battle scenes and on top of different desert village buildings. Can't really swoosh or vroom, but one can always make machine gun sounds as they are placed on your tabletop diorama or bookshelf.
Price: 5/5 - Original retail price is $63, that's $31.50 each. Based on everything that I've read re. K&C's pricing structure, detailed $32 figures are a pretty good buy, especially compared to more recent pricing.
Display/Eye Appeal: 5/5 - Pictures help tell the story here; they look good from different angles and seem to photograph well. Solid 5!
Overall Score: 35/35 points for this little figure set, that's a 100% or A+! I have not given a set max points before, but this is a wonderful little set that I believe is deserving of the rating.
Summary:
AK057 Attack Group is a beautiful two-figure army builder that is well-worth the price. The figures are solid, heavy, stand well, and look great. The painting is nicely done and having one figure kneeling in hard helmet and the other standing with cap and Schmeisser create a perfect combo. I've really had a lot of fun placing both of these figures in various scenes. I would highly recommend if you are looking to expand your K&C Afrika Korps army!
