I was reading the newest Toy Soldier Collector Magazine and was saddened to see that there was an article on the passing away of Doug Dearth. I only knew Doug from toy soldier shows and from the days that he worked at the Michigan Toy Soldier Co. Doug was always a wonderful person to chat with at his table suring toy soldier shows or in the store at MTSC when he worked there. I often would bring my young son to the store or shows and Doug was always great with him. I'm glad from reading the article that he had friends and family by his side to the end. Rest in peace Doug.

Balls.

Very sorry to read/hear about this, Doug was a super nice guy, always had a smile on his face, got to know him through his employ with Rick at MTSC, would chat each other up at the toy soldier shows.

He and I had our tables in the lower ballroom at the Hyatt for the Chicago Toy Soldier Show when he went out on his own as an artist, we'd trade jabs back and forth as we were both gassed on Sunday but mucked our way through the show, he'd come to the hospitality suite Don used to run after the show on Sunday night and we'd bust each other up.

He featured me in one of his cartoons depicting a toy soldier seller at a show with "please do not touch" signs displayed but a customer breaking several figures while saying "sorry"....................we'd laugh about the depiction; he was upset he did not illustrate me in a soccer shirt that I used to wear at the shows...............;).

Yet another one of the good guys in the hobby is no longer with us.

****ty news.

Doug was a hoot once you got to know him! Privileged of one last hug in Chicago this year...

Recently cracked open the book I bought from him several years ago of his Friday Puzzlers. A super fun book I will cherish even more now with the personalized inscription and sketches for me.

I am sorry to hear that Doug has left us. I only knew him from shows, but he was a really nice guy. The world is a poorer place for his passing.

I really liked Doug. Had a lot of fun creating Kelly's Heroes with him. It took some coaxing as he thought it was a little out there, but once he got rolling it was a hoot! Really will miss talking to him at shows and seeing him. He will be missed!

I will miss Doug and his excellent artwork! He was always interesting to talk to.

John
