See that River Nile Series is being discounted in the USA. Wonder if prices will be similarly reduced in the UK?

Paying full retail price for pieces leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Given that prices have been significantly increased in past 12 months.

So despite earlier assurances regarding this series. Doesn't seem to have been a roaring success that some said. Which then leaves one wondering.

Retirement of the range seems very apparent now...............{sm2}

Not sure what the future holds on this line, just the 3 sets of marines to come at this stage. It may have run it's course with the steamer as the centre piece. I have swapped my attention from this series to Britain's WW1 which is looking good at this point. My Durbar series has hit a wall and awaiting the upcoming Zulu items. I am sure Richard will comment shortly and give us a heads up what is the bigger picture for Nile series. Cheers, Robin.

Aside from the War on the Nile series I would say that the Redcoat, Pettycoat and Durbar lines are also going to be trimmed as they too are heavily discounted. Britains has thankfully provided collectors with lots of choices, the down side however is that there is probably a lot of inventory sitting around. The discounted prices are very reasonable and if these pieces do not fly out the door we are all in for problems. That is to say that economy is heavily impacting the toy soldier business. Along this line has anyone noticed that Conte is selling on its EBAY store figures from the North West frontier series at a price that undercuts other vendors selling Conte merchandise?

I guess the question that needs to be asked is if collectors are not purchasing the War on the Nile series because they do not like it, or they like it and cannot afford it.

Cheers

Well according to the WBritains reps at the London show last month there are 3 hand-to-hand pairs coming out and a few Mahdists (not Fussy Wuzzies) as well as the Naval Brigade sets we all know about. I think it’s going to be just a few sets each year now after initial large releases, which launched the range. Since the end of March I have managed to collect the whole range and it would be a crying shame if this series came to an end.

Mind you Jeff, you have got the best diorama going for this series and short of swapping the bow gun with the upcoming Gatling gun for a change, you could say from your point of view that the series could not get any better, so you could file it away as complete. Good to know some more sets to come, but on a drip feed of releases it is going to be hard to remain motivated. Cheers, Robin.

I'll let Richard speak to this himself...but when I spoke with him a few weeks ago he assured me that although he had a bit of extra War on the Nile stock that didn't mean that he wasn't committed to the line.

While often discounted sets equate to the end of a series, I don't think that is the case for the War on the Nile. It's been a strong series.

Hi Pete,
Thanks for the good news. By the way thank Richard for the providing a discount in these economic times.

Hi Everyone:

Here is the situation, when we launched the Nile Series three years ago I had to take a guess on how it would do. I had guessed wrong with Zulu and gone very conservative when we launched that range, resulting in very few figures being available the first 18 months. So, with Nile I took a slightly more aggressive approach, well, you can guess where that led. Long story short, the Nile Series, while I had hoped it would be three quarters as good as Zulu, has ended up being about half as good, which is still bloody good! All that meant I ended up with a few more figures than we needed, and after two to three years it was time to make a move. I also think we launched too many figures at once with the range.

All said and done, Nile will continue, it is every bit as strong as WWI and Napoleonic and the new numbers being made will reflect that so we should not end up with this issue again (unless all of you stop buying because you think it is over in which case it will become a self fulfilling prophecy!). The Gatling has already sold out in the US and we have pulled a few back from the UK, leaving them almost out. Three new Mahdists appear in the Summer catalog next month and as Jeff commented we are working on three cracking hand to hand sets for early 2013. The range will continue, not at the same pace it had been on, but still with enough releases to sink your teeth into to keep building Tamai and Abu Klea.

On a final note I do not like to do sales - on the one hand it is a great boon for collectors wanting to jump into a range or add to it, on the other it is aggravating to those that paid full price and is not healthy for the W. Britain name. Over the last seven years we have tried to keep it to a minimum and hold onto figures for at least 2-3 years, which is what we will continue to do.

Thank you,

Richard

.........coming out and a few Mahdists (not Fussy Wuzzies)

Hate it when the Wuzzies get fussy like that......must have been a bit irritated when they thought their line was being discontinued..........or maybe they were fussy because Richard hasn't hit us with any new modern stuff {sm4}{sm4}

Just having a go at you mate, {sm3}

Cheers

Hi Richard, thanks for the straight reply and I am glad to hear the War Along the Nile will be continuing as I have plenty of room for more! :wink2: This is the range that has got me collecting WBritains again and I have now moved into the Zulu War – great figures at a great price. :smile2:

Thank you

Jeff

Hi Richard,
Thanks for the good news!
Benjamin

The discount applies only to NEW inventory being bought. Thus a dealer like myself or anyone has a bunch of options. EXAMPLE 1; They can buy discounted Inventory TODAY and offer the newly bought inventory cheapest. EXAMPLE 2; They can buy inventory TODAY and cost average with existing inventory which would lead to selling the combined inventory at a little higher price then example 1 EXAMPLE 3 They can buy new inventory today sell some at a reduced rate and squirrel some away for when the pieces become harder to get or for people entering the line. I have invested a large sum of money into this line (all in) with hopes for long term sales, so technically I have lost alot of money on my existing pre sale inventory, but that is how the cookie crumbles. The best way to look at it is this is a GREAT opportunity to add to an existing line you have or a GREAT time to start a NEW line that Richard is long term committed to. Chester

The Nile Campaign relative to similar sized conflicts is just too esoteric. As are most of the British Victorian campaigns in all honesty bar the AZW and perhaps the Second Boer War. Plus it can't help that JJD have produced an excellent range for the same period.

The War Along the Nile range could (and hopefully) be extended to encompass the whole of the Sudan conflict ranging from 1882 to 1898. There was a multitude of different troop types not just what we have seen so far, so lets hope this is the start of a long journey of collecting these fine figures from WBritains.

Jeff

Btw, I had the complete range of JJD figures but I decided to change over to WB and managed to find a buyer for the whole lot.

I just looked.:smile2: It's on the Britains UK site. Order em there and save

I have just looked on the WB UK website and the Nile series are all at normal (non-sale) prices so I don't know which part of the site you are looking at.

It looks like it's only Treefrog that has the sale offers.

And look at that Delhi Durbar set. I would love that set at that Treefrog price. I would get the Nile sets as well.

Thanks for the reply Richard.

Given that the range hasn't been selling well. My gripe is that the UK retail price was lifted in late 2011 then again in March/April 2012. Surely better to have left price as was. As may have given impetus to the demand for the range.
