In the dispatches thread a couple of people asked where was Rob. Sad to say but Rob has quit the Forum. I believe the fallout from the Threats in Pms Thread was the final straw for him. He's not quitting collecting, just forums.

Interesting, I predict Robs return within a month.....the guy is addicted to this place and really shouldn't worry about what a few real turkeys have to say.
Wayne.

That really disappoints me, Rob has so much to offer and is an integral part of the forum. Rob your enthusiasm will drive you back soon otherwise there will be a big void in your life. If you had any knockers tell them to go fly a kite, this is a fun site about of all things, toy soldiers and your contribution keeps it fun. Your resignation is not accepted. Get back on task{sm4}{sm4}{sm4}, cheers, Robin.

Rob quitting the forum ... It's a pity if true. He will be missed, and I hope he will re-consider this.

You are quite right Brad - very sad! I spoke to Rob on the phone and he told me about the vile crap that was sent to him via pm's which was unfortunately read by his wife who quite rightly was more than a little upset. He is still collecting and will continue to be at the London shows.

Yes, it is Jeff, very sad. I've never met him in person but he's a good friend and his presence and enthusiasm will be missed here. You can't replace that.

Brad

There is just one thing I’d like to say about this: The Forum is what those who form it are collectively. It’s “feeling”, its culture, its atmosphere, its allure. Overall this Forum is inhabited by a wonderful bunch of guys (the overwhelming majority I’ve never met in person, but I’m fond of) with a few even embodying it’s essence. Of these, IMHO one embraces its soul: Rob. Hope to see him back soon!

Very sad to hear this. I consider Rob a friend and enjoyed his enthusiasm for the hobby. Rob has been a mainstay on the forum and I hope he will consider rejoining us soon.

Hope Rob reconsiders, he is a great contributor to this forum, as I had a falling out on the forum last year and took a break for a week or so and got some great advice from a few good members and that is enjoy the forum for what it is, not to allow a few nuts and bolts chase you off the forum, George G. said it as well with a large group on any type of forum your going to have disagreements with so many opinions on this or that, either way I hope he returns...Sammy

Rob quits the forum because of threats. Threats made on a TOY SOLDIER forum. I really can't wrap my head around this. What kind of adult feels it neccesary to make threats against another person, over the internet, on a TOY SOLDIER forum? Obviously, the wrong person has quit. I feel that these people who feel it neccesary to threaten another, on a hobby forum of all places, could better use their time going to a therapist. This whole series of incidents and cyber bullying is just sad. -- Al

I'm with Carlos, 100%. I can't imagine what possessed someone on this forum to send threats to Rob, a genuinely terrific guy:smile2:, but whoever did it is the one who does not belong on this forum.

Well said, Al.

I have learnt to duck out of any potential "verbal" scraps that all to frequently arise of late on our forum but I can well imagine receiving "threatening" private messages and scurrilous accusations is altogether a whole new ball game to have to contend with. Rob and myself regularly speak weekly on the phone and like Jeff I too am fully aware of what's gone down here which has left me almost dumb-founded.

Not to worry. Anyone who "quits" the forum will always be back. I didn't follow this whole tortured discussion but my understanding is that Rob didn't actually receive any threats. He simply choose to ask about it for some reason and started a row. Rob is a long standing member, a true collector and nice guy but when I constantly read some of those threads it's like some variation of Münchausen syndrome designed to seek attention. It's unfortunate.

From what I have gleaned, Rob did indeed receive threats and insults, which his wife saw and became upset at, so we have this result. The internet has the power to make the weak and cowardly into 'SUPERBULLY', who springs into action to right the wrongs suffered while leading a sad existence. -- Al

I was referring to his last post in that thread where he says "Morning chaps! Having resd one ir two posts including Waynes I would like to point out once again that I myself have NOT received any threat . I posted a question as I wanted to know forum policy on such matters including rants / abusive messages."

I understand. I was under the impression that this has been an on going problem, preceding Rob's last thread in relation to forum policy, and that the policy thread was actually just the latest dust-up. I believe Rob had been threatened on earlier occasions. Regardless, the whole problem is inexcusable. -- Al

In Rob's thread "Threats in pm's", it was stated that threats and insults written in PMs can be dealt with by the moderators. That said, Rob should have forwarded the offensive PMs to the moderators for their review and action. As he is the injured party, he should not be the one taking leave of the Forum. It should be the member who wrote the dastardly PMs to Rob and which unfortunately were read by Rob's wife too. The irony is that this character is still free to roam this board to find another victim.

Raymond.
