Hi all,

just a quick story of this wonderful man, through a good friend on facebook (thanks Rob) I was lucky enough to get Mr. Bob Noody address and wrote him back in early December this year (not thinking I would here from Bob due to age, his own life events) but to my surprise I got a letter back from him this weekend!!! very sincere and kind gentleman to the very core.

I told him in my letter that this photo was one of the first WWII photos that I was drawn to, how could a guy knowing what he's about to go into but be brave and bad *** that he's got a slight smile in the pic??!! always love this photo.

Bob did it all, Normandy, Carentean, Bulge, Hitlers nest, all kinds of awards, guys like this are why we aren't speaking German and chowing down on sourkraut for dinner tonite!!!

but just in his letter, everything is just that "no big deal kind of attitude" and humble as he can be, the greatest generation is fading by the day and I'm glad at least for a moment or two I got the chance to get lucky enough to have the privledge to write and corrospond with a real hero...Sammy

It's amazing when you get a chance to speak to a veteran or more the point they take a moment to speak to you and share some of their experience's. It can't be easy reflecting on events even after all this time.....thanks for sharing mate.:salute::

After reading more on Robert and Fox company of the 506th I had to share a few of his stories,

While flanking the 506th Easy co. at the battle of Bloody Gulch at Carentean Fox co. was hit hard and had to fall back after fresh German armor appeared and attacked, a German Marader tank pushed through the hedge rows and Robert (Bob) was called on to take it out with his Bazooka, he approached taking a carefully aimed shot hitting the back track but the tank was still engaged, so this time he had to reload the weapon by himself in the open while enemy fire was directed at him and took another shot, this one hit the mark right below the main gun!! as Bob knew it was time to get out of there a frieghtened horse happened to be running wild and Bob ran beside the horse as a German machine gunner had located Bob's postion, needless to say the horse was killed but Bob survived in thanks to a horse!!...Sammy
