Robin Hood...The Movie 2010 (1 Viewer)

Can't agree about Alan Rickman as the sheriff.. he was much to cartoonish.. should have played it more straight up - would have been more convincing (in my opinion).

Jim, I dare say you're right on the accuracy front, but its a persona that Rickman does so well - amuses the heck out of me. :D

He is very good isn't he,he outshone Mr Costner in my view.I like him in the H Potter films too, sublimely over the top:cool:

To quote Chris Griffin of Family Guy fame as he exited a movie theater having just seen "No wat out"........"HOW does Kevin Costner keep getting work?!" As an actor, he is just brutal.

Crowe was brilliant in Gladiator, one of my top five favorite movie rolls of all time along with Brando from The Godfather, Dicaprio from The Departed, Pesci from Goodfellas and De Niro from Raging Bull.........

Jim: the action sequences look VERY good. Although NOTHING will ever equal Flynn's version, I am looking forward to seeing this new take on the story. Binder is right--MEN IN TIGHTS was better than than god awful Costner version............Stryker
No question the Flynn version is the one to beat but I enjoyed the Costner version, it is just done in a lighter tone but nonetheless good fun for me.;) Crowe is in a whole different league as an actor however.

I also liked Alan Rickman a great deal but then I almost always do.

One thing i like about Crowe is the guy lives a real life...And what i mean by that is he does not live in a bubble like a lot A list star's.
He walks the streets of any city in the world with out any bodygaurds.
I remember a story i herd on the radio were a few guys were playing Rugby in a park in Sydney and Crowe was riding his push bike. Then ask them if he could join in {and they sure did let him} he played for about 45mins then rode off.
Now if we can just get him on the forum :D

Higgins boat...WOW!

Well the Orcs had them in LOTR as well.

It maybe wasn't a classic like Errol Flynn's version, but I always liked Robin and Marian. Sean Connery was an awesome older Robin. Robert Shaw did a great job as an older sheriff. I am also a big fan of Nicole Williamson. IMHO it was a good movie. I think that Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott will do a great job on this version. Although harder on the extras, thousands of warriors jumping off a longboat would have been awesome.

I agree - Robin and Marian was an excellent film..

If the medieval higgins boats are the worst problem with the new film - we'll be in great shape...

I have seen two Costner movies I like real well. The UNTOUCHABLES, but Connery stole that movie--his role was priceless, and he deserved his oscar.

OPEN RANGE, was by far, the best I've seen him act in a western, Robert Duvall was great too. I liked it alot better than DANCES WITH WOLVES, although the scenery and story line was good in that movie--his character was just too unbelievable. I saw an interview with him years ago, when they were filming his Robin Hood picture. He stated he would absolutely NOT WEAR anything that Flynn wore in his version. No need to worry Kevin, no one is going to confuse your performance with Errol Flynn's................Stryker

It might be that those boats made the trailer but will get the CGI treatment in the finished film. Masts, rigging, and a more "olde" look.

The only two Costner movies that I liked were, Bull Durham and Field of Dreams. To me, the Untouchables was a Sean Connery movie. I also liked Andy Garcia in that movie.

I forgot about him--I did too..................Stryker

As far as Costner goes, I must admit to liking "Waterworld" as an interesting sci-fi attempt. Also like his westerns such as "Open Range", "Wyatt Earp" (yes, I know it was too long),"Silverado"(great show). I also liked "Perfect World" and his early "Fandango". He has also made his share of bad movies, but most actors have. Now, back to the new RH. I don't think I can buy into the "modern" landing craft. I hope they cut or alter that. -- Al

right about the landing craft - but not enough to ruin the pic for me... on the same lines as the rocket launching trebuchets in Kindgom of Heaven...

I actually enjoyed Wyatt Earp and the Untouchables.Although I must say I don't think Connery is a great actor,he's a good actor but not great. He was certainly good in the Hill, but then again I don't think John Wayne was a great actor so what do I know..so I'll join in and say 'They send one of yours to the Hospital, you send one of theirs to the morgue'!.(I also love that scene where Costner throws Connery's killer off the roof:eek::D)

I also recently got the original Elliot Ness series on dvd, really enjoyable, love the voice overs in this series.(also a great performance from a very young Peter falk as a hood)
