What exactly do you mean? I am kind of confused by your post.

Do you have the money to buy the KC item that the truth of the matter and if you do would you spend that amount ? I would like a real spitfire but does not mean I have the funds to buy one :wink2:hope that helps

All apologies, I thought my post was self explanatory, I have and will continue to put my money where my mouth is when it comes to Gordon's dioramas versus JG.

Sure, I can do that. I think one might be on display soon, I can have some pictures taken then.

Please don't get me wrong, I also like JG products and have many of their items in my collection.

As far as the Spitfire? I asked my wife if I could bid on some of Jacques Littlefield's tanks (after all, he lived just up the road from our California home). She said no and she was pretty sure that if I bought one it would probably be grounds for divorce.

Guys ,

Just for your info,

the "Winter Diorama" suitable for 3 x Tiger Tanks. The size of the "Winter" is 22" x 22" and the price is US$3,250. Postage is extra.

Below is the diorama that im talking about.

Personally, I try to buy off the rack (mass produced) diorama pieces, before I go to the more expensive commission based option. For example, I tried to get the retired JG miniature French foreign legion fort front section before having to turn to TM Terrain. While an original, the price was quadruple/5 fold the JG original price and the wait time was 3 months. With all due respect while Gordon's pieces are indeed stunningly beautiful, K&C does not have any significant proprietary/competitive advantage over any of the other talented professionals diorama makers out there in my opinion. Except maybe they build large and incredibly detailed pieces to showcase/promote their productline at industry shows and the pieces themselves also receive a great deal of visability. Maybe that visability makes it worth more to someone? Personally I value my money too much as a banker to be paying several thousands of dollars for say a 2 foot by 2 foot diorama albeit it is likely a one of a kind with a very limited resale audience. Similarily I am guessing the same crowd that buys one off dioramas also appreciate K&C wooden warbirds. Now saying all that, I have no understanding of how to value art/sculptures either..... so one can take my thoughts with a grain of salt and no disrespect to anyone as I have over paid for many items during my collecting days as I just had to have it.....

Hi Guys, a couple of additional points if I may... For our old friend "UK Subs"... The main point of the thread was to let both Robin and other interested folks know that a Dio like the "Fortified Manor House" takes a helluva lot longer to construct and finish than a mere 40 hours!

This completed Dio measures almost 6 square feet by 18 inches high. If Robin or anyone else thinks they can do it better, faster and cheaper go do it... It's still, for the most part, a free world so Gordon, me and many others look forward to seeing the results.

Also why should Jason (Panzer Ace) or indeed anyone else have to show or prove to "Subs" any part of their collection just because they happen to prefer one item from another?

Finally, both Gordon and yours truly are big fans of John Gittings' work and I am very proud of the fact that John often chooses K&C figures and vehicles in conjunction with his own excellent work in his own promotional brochures and leaflets...Most collectors heartily enjoy and appreciate both... So, what,s the harm in that "Subs"?

Best wishes and happy collecting!
Andy C.

I don't think most of us, Andy, who are collectors, primarily, and not dio makers like Gordon can appreciate or understand the amount of work it takes to make one of Gordon's dios, which was the point I believe you were trying to make; it's simply beyond the realm of our understanding.

Although all his work is fabulous and you have to see them in person to really appreciate them, my favorite was and is the Crete diorama, the one he made for the FJs. The Junkers was scratch built, absolutely impressive even to this day. I know I have a photo somewhere, just can't find it.

In an ideal world, we'd all to love one of those dios -- my druthers comment. Unfortunately, it's not an ideal world so it's best to be content with what we have.

I would think it would be safe to say.........For those who have not attempted to create a 18" x 18" or Larger Diorama give it a whirl. 40 Hours of work goes by quite quickly when
creating these. It may easier to ask.... "How many hours beyond 40" were needed for completion. Once completed, an additional 2-4 hours goes into "Final" additions, etc...
to bring it all together. Let me also add that the whole process is enjoyable and quite relaxing building a scene. I really enjoyed watching the "Fortified Manor House" come from
its early stages to final completion.

Quite right. I saw Wayne, Bob, Phil, Glenn and Brett work on the K&C Dinner dioramas in Brisbane. It is a time consuming process. It does, however, value add to the hobby. If I divide the money I spent this year on TS by the hours of entertainment I can usually convince myself that it is a cheap hobby.

The manor house is a beauty. I really appreciate seeing the process. Thanks for sharing K&C.

regards

Jack

Jack I fill the same when I get a diorama from Mitch and it not cost me two month wages ^&grin I'm just working a big k&C diorama as we speak ^&cool

Not really {eek3} would be great if you could post some photos of your collection mate ^&confuse

You crack me up Neil, for someone that supposedly collects K&C you spend a heck of a lot of time bagging them.

To return to the subject of the thread if I may be so bold, I marvel at Gordon's skill I really do. I wonder if he would consider maybe offering instructional snippets on you tube? I know many would enjoy seeing him describe how he creates certain things, I sure would.
