Hi Fellas,

Returning to "The Ancients", I've ventured into the desert of the Middle East breaking out some of my old Desert Village buildings to create this little scene.

Thoughts on K&C's Life of Jesus Theme

I find the Life of Jesus collection a most interesting theme. As of Dec 2021, the theme has included around 53 pieces with the first, Holy Family (LoJ001) being released in 2009, a set still available. The theme has not had many additions over a 12-year period with three recent releases just last month (Nov 2021), including The Good Samaritan (LoJ049), Donkey Boy Set (LoJ050), and Suffer the Little Children (LoJ054). I don't own many pieces from the theme but purchased a few figures several years ago as civilians for WWII N. Africa. The theme has some beautifully designed figures (nothing new for K&C), vivid and unique colors, and one added bonus, Romans.

The theme includes 8 "blue" Roman Auxiliary figures and in the same poses but with different colored tunics and shields, 8 "red" Roman Auxiliary figures. Two additional blue figures are offered on horseback. Some but not all of the figures are still available. The Romans are of a mostly standing variety with a few marching, but none have their swords drawn or in battle poses. I chose to pursue a set of the blue figures which would be my first K&C Romans and I was not disappointed.

With the addition of K&C's Desert Village (SP) scenic pieces, the Life of Jesus theme is brought to life to recount biblical stories or can be utilized to create ancient Roman civilizations in the Middle East. Just as K&C's Desert Village structures can be used for different themes, figures and animals from Life of Jesus can also be utilized for various eras to add unique elements in dioramas. K&C collectors like Robin has utilized the Donkey Boy Set in his 1922 Valley of the Kings diorama while Steve (Horus) and others have shared a number of incredible biblical scenes.

What Would Make It Better?

The first thing that comes to mind is a new camel or two. It's been some time since we've seen K&C offer a camel and with the latest Ancient Egypt sets, a camel as part of the Scenic (SP) collection would make for a beautiful addition to either theme, and perhaps even the IDF theme. A new animal set similar to LoJ004 Animals retired in 2013 or re-release would also be most useful. Lastly and produced by so many companies during the Christmas season, I would love to see K&C produce a wooden-style stable. Another one of those pieces that could span a number of different themes.

Final Thoughts

One of the smaller K&C themes, Life of Jesus remains a unique and versatile collection of sets. Thank you K&C for creating an amazing theme and continuing to add pieces to help tell the Greatest Story Ever Told.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to All!

That’s a great informative history of this series Rob. It remains a core seres of mine offering a peaceful scenario across all periods of history I collect. Remembering I asked Andy once why when repeating all the Blue Roman tunics in Red, why weren’t the two on horseback also done in Red, but never received an answer. The LOJ are currently stepping up to create some 1922 Tutankhamen scenes I am doing and they fit perfectly. There are 3 missing numbers in the latest releases which bodes well some more hopefully soon. Robin.

Rob hope you do not mind me hijacking your thread, but would these look good in Red? Robin.

Good looking scene there Rob !:salute::

I think Andy used as inspiration some of Ron Embleton's illustrations on Roman Britain.

Great shots, Robin. You've got a fine collection. I am surprised that the two horsemen were not offered in red as well (although I'm partial to the blue).

Thanks for the feedback, Steve. I know you have created some amazing scenes from your LoJ collection.

Here's a few more:

I'm with you there Rob with liking the blue !:)

Robin, I think Andy said a while back that the mounted Auxiliaries wouldn't be offered in red. You can always paint them red yourself as I have painted a red one blue ! Since they're end of line discounted might be worth a thought before they sell out for good.

Steve

My eyes would let me down Steve and no painting talent to change those Blue shields Red. You and Rob have embraced this series so well, evident in your many dioramas. Excellent viewing. Robin.

Some 'Iconic' scenes there guys, 'Bigger than Ben Hur' as Aussies used to say back when people knew who he was :wink2:

Rob, Robin.....terrific photos gentlemen! Your scenes always puts a smile on my face and reminds me why I love this hobby so much.

Great scenes on all accounts by everyone!! A special thanks to Rob for starting this thread and providing the history of this range.

I too have enjoyed collecting this series and have many of the sets & figures that were released from the onset.

If I may chime in too with regards to requests of what I think may enhance this range....., I have always thought that the wise men could use some more figures. Those 3 guys certainly did not travel alone and I believe making their whole entourage would be appropriate and at the same time provide additional civilian figures that could be used across several eras (like many of the LoJ figures already do). To me that would be a win-win.

Does anyone else agree?

Thanks Mark, my pleasure but I think K&C really deserves the credit for a great and versatile theme. I too, would love to see additional civilians and as others have pictured here on Treefrog, they would make great additions to different themes. Completely agree.

Hello. Are you looking for all this and collecting it in order to give it to some church as a gift, or what are you doing all this for? It's just interesting to me because I'm a church parishioner. I think our pastor from firstchurchlove.com would be interested in these relics. Not because he collects such things but because he is interested in art related to religion. In addition, using the example of all kinds of posters, posters, and figurines, he will be able to tell our children stories from the Bible. My younger sister adores all the miracles created by Christ. She has a beautiful illustrated Bible in which she reads about Him. So I think it would be interesting for all of us to look at the "Life of Jesus" set.

This is his collection, why would he be donating it to a church?
